Sylvan Cave Treasure Circuit
Back at the first B2F junction, take the northern loop this time. If you left to recover, enter the cave, cast Float, and take the entrance’s southern stairs to reach that junction. The save-point and house branch went south from here; this route goes toward the larger treasure collection.
Keep using the Sylvan Cave battle plan: early Toad for Ghost and Malboro, focused attacks on DarkTree, and reliable healing before optional stealing or Pray. Renew Float on every new screen.
FairyRod and the Hidden Onward Route
The northern stairs bring you to a B3F section with three chests containing Equipment: RodsEquippable by Rydia (both forms), Palom, Tellah, FuSoYa. Power 30; Acc 55%; Wisdom +10. Reusable Item spell: Charm., HiPotion, and MaidKiss. Collect the reachable pair, then enter the wall on the eastern side of the cluster to reach the isolated chest.
Equip Equipment: RodsEquippable by Rydia (both forms), Palom, Tellah, FuSoYa. Power 30; Acc 55%; Wisdom +10. Reusable Item spell: Charm. on Rydia for casting. It adds Wisdom, which matters more to her regular job than squeezing out a little extra knife damage. Keep EquipmentEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain, Edge, Rydia (both forms), Palom, Edward. Power 28; Acc 94%. Reusable Item attack with no MP cost. in reserve for its reusable attack. You don’t need to discard a useful tool to equip a different one.
Return toward the arrival stairs, but don’t simply go back up. The wall east of those stairs conceals the onward passage. Follow it around to another staircase leading into B2F. This is the easy-to-miss route to the rest of the treasure, not the route back to the house.
Nine Chests Along the Corridor
Refresh Float and collect the four-chest group:
| Position | Contents |
|---|---|
| Top left | Remedy |
| Top right | Kamikaze |
| Bottom left | 2,000 Gil |
| Bottom right | 3,000 Gil |
Farther along is a five-chest group. The left vertical stack contains MaidKiss, Ether1, MaidKiss, from top to bottom. The two extending right from the top of that stack hold Exit, then Bestiary at the far right.
Continue to the long B3F passage. At its end, walk through the western wall to find the teleporter. Before using it, check HP, MP, and inventory space. The destination contains six chests, and every one comes with a fight.
Six Guarded Chests
Cast Float in the treasure room too. Heal between chests instead of assuming a few healthy characters means the party is ready.
| Chest | Enemies | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Top left | Six Ghosts | Inferno |
| Top middle | Six Ghosts | Blizzard |
| Top right | Six Ghosts | LitStorm |
| Bottom left | Two DarkTrees and two Malboros | WeaponEquippable by Edge. Power 40; Acc 85%. Attack element: Projectile. |
| Bottom middle | Four Malboros | Avenger |
| Bottom right | Two Centpedes | 10 Equipment: ArrowsEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Rydia (both forms), Rosa, Cid, Palom, Porom, Edward, FuSoYa. Power 1. Attacks may inflict Petrify. Requires a bow-and-arrow pair. |
For the Ghost chests, have Rydia open with Toad, then finish with physical attacks. If some resist, target those separately instead of turning the successful frogs back into Ghosts. Rosa can Pray once things are under control; she should heal reliably if the opening spell barrage has left someone in danger.
Use the same early transformation against four Malboros. In the WeaponEquippable by Edge. Power 40; Acc 85%. Attack element: Projectile. battle, however, the DarkTrees remain a threat. Focus Cecil and Kain on the trees while Rydia transforms the Malboros. Let Edge help with recovery items if Rosa is falling behind. This is the chest most likely to punish the assumption that Toad has made everything safe.
Finish the Centpede pair with focused attacks and collect the arrows. Before leaving, make sure all six chests are open and all rewards have been taken. If the bag fills and you still have SomaDrop from the smithy, using it on a caster is better than throwing it away.
Take the exit teleporter outside, recover, and save.
What to Equip, What to Store
WeaponEquippable by Edge. Power 40; Acc 85%. Attack element: Projectile. plus Equipment: Ninja swordsEquippable by Edge. Power 32; Acc 90%. is worth trying on Edge. Keep the displaced Equipment: Ninja swordsEquippable by Edge. Power 32; Acc 90%. while comparing performance. Equipment: ClawsEquippable by Edge, Yang. Power 0; Acc 99%; Strength +5, Agility +5. Attacks may inflict Sleep. and Equipment: ClawsEquippable by Edge, Yang. Power 0; Acc 90%; Strength +3. Attacks may inflict Poison. offer stat or status-effect tradeoffs, but aren’t automatic improvements over his swords. There is no need to turn every new weapon into a mandatory equipment swap.
WeaponEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain. Power 80; Acc 95%; Strength +10, Agility +10, Vitality +10, Wisdom −10, Will −10. Uses both hands; no shield. Automatically Berserks its wielder; you give up command control. is a specialized choice for Cecil, not a direct replacement for Equipment: SwordsEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain. Power 75; Acc 80%. Attack element: Ice. and a shield. It uses both hands and forces Berserk, so you lose control of his turns as well as the shield. If you want Cecil available for items and emergency healing, keep the sword-and-shield setup and store Avenger.
Keep Equipment: RodsEquippable by Rydia (both forms), Palom, Tellah, FuSoYa. Power 30; Acc 55%; Wisdom +10. Reusable Item spell: Charm. on Rydia, useful recovery items and ammunition in the bag, and leave room for the next dungeon. Fat Chocobo can hold spare claws, the unused bow, Avenger, and other equipment you aren’t wearing. Don’t sell rare finds merely to avoid a storage visit when money isn’t the problem.
Yang’s recovery is a later return trip, not something that prevents us from leaving now. The Sylvan sidequest reference includes that sequence for when surface access returns. Next, we’ll head for the separate Land of Summons detour.
