Return to Baron
The Devil’s Road brings us back to Baron, but the front door of the castle isn’t our way in. First, we have an old friend to find and a few locked doors to open.
Before Visiting the Inn
Heal and make a regular save outside town. Keep Cecil in front and the three mages in back. Tellah has plenty of spells now, but still only 90 MP, so don’t spend the whole supply showing off.
If you stored spare equipment with Fat Chocobo, don’t panic. Baron’s shops will shortly provide what our next party member needs. A long trip back to Mysidia isn’t necessary.
In fact, if you leave town you can visit the Fat Chocobo in this area, and even go back through the Mist cave to visit the town of Mist and buy EquipmentEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain, Edge, Rydia (both forms), Palom, Edward. Power 28; Acc 94%. Reusable Item attack with no MP cost. - a helpful weapon.
An Unfriendly Reunion
Speak to Yang in the Inn. You’ll face two Guards, followed by a battle against Monk. There isn’t a leisurely shopping break between the two, which is why we healed first.
The Guards can use Mini and MagicBlack Magic in Tellah's post-trial menu, costing 15 MP. Its effect has not yet been tested on this run.. Keep attacking, and use a mage’s turn to fix trouble rather than letting a weakened character wait for everyone else’s attack animation.
Against Monk, expect attacks that damage the whole party. Have Porom use Cure2 when needed; MagicA spell Rydia learns on her second level-up after joining; its displayed icon still needs identification. spread across everybody may not recover enough to keep up. Cecil attacks, and Palom or Tellah can contribute damage when healing is under control. If Palom has EquipmentEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain, Edge, Rydia (both forms), Palom, Edward. Power 28; Acc 94%. Reusable Item attack with no MP cost., its equipped-item attack is another option that doesn’t consume MP.
Keep fighting until the scene takes over. Yang recovers his memory, rejoins, and provides BaronKey. The party rests at the Inn.
Put Some Equipment on Yang
Open Yang’s equipment menu before heading back into danger. He can return with empty hand, head, and arms slots. That’s a rather important detail for a man about to punch his way through a sewer.
BaronKey opens the equipment shop. Use retained pieces first, then fill the gaps:
| Item | Price | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Headband | 450 Gil | A useful headpiece for Yang. |
| EquipmentEquippable by Everyone except Cecil (Dark Knight). Def 5; Eva +10%; Mag Def 2; Mag Eva 1%; Strength +3. | 4,000 Gil | Replace his Leather body armor if affordable. |
| Silver | 650 Gil | Fill his arms slot if you haven’t already. |
| EquipmentEquippable by Edge, Yang. Power 0; Acc 80%. Attack element: Ice. | 450 Gil | Equip alongside EquipmentEquippable by Edge, Yang. Power 0; Acc 80%. Attack element: Lightning. Effective against Mech enemies. for the coming route. |
| EquipmentEquippable by Edge, Yang. Power 0; Acc 80%. Attack element: Lightning. Effective against Mech enemies. | 550 Gil | Keep EquipmentEquippable by Edge, Yang. Power 0; Acc 80%. Attack element: Fire. in reserve rather than throwing it away. |
| Thunder rod | 700 Gil | An optional reusable lightning attack for Tellah. |
| Cure staff | 480 Gil | Compare with your existing healer’s weapon; don’t buy duplicates. |
Don’t worry if switching claws leaves Yang’s Attack number unchanged. Their properties still matter. See Yang’s abilities and equipment for the distinction.
Behind the Counters
The shop has more to offer than its price list.
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Stand beside the table in the southeast part of the shop and walk east through the wall. |
| 2 | Follow the concealed passage north, then west above the shop. |
| 3 | Use the downward opening to get behind the counters. |
| 4 | Collect ThorRage on the weapon side and 2,000 Gil on the armor side. |
| 5 | Retrace the passage to the public shop floor. |
Optional: Return to Mist
If you want to explore Mist now, the detour is available before we enter the Waterway. It is optional; you can also return after acquiring the airship.

Outside, search the grass by the eastern pond for Bomb. The concealed tree route farther along leads to another grassy enclosure with two more Bomb pickups.
For prices and equipment tradeoffs, see the Mist reference.
Open the Waterway
Back in Baron, heal, save, and use BaronKey at the locked western doorway. In the small stair room, walk east through the wall before descending: the hidden chest contains 1,000 Gil.
Return west to the stairs. We’re taking the less dignified entrance to the castle.
