Cave of Summons
Our next optional stop is the small island northwest of Tomra. Land beside its cave and save before entering. This is the Cave of Summons, not Sylvan Cave in the far northwest or the mountain-ringed Sealed Cave north of town. Rydia recognizes the way home. Unfortunately, knowing someone who lives here does not exempt us from the welcome committee.
Bring recovery supplies, a Cabin, and plenty of empty inventory slots. Cast Float on everyone as soon as you enter, then renew it on every new floor. The glowing ground takes HP with each step otherwise. Check revived characters too. You can explore and shop without Wall, but you’ll want Rosa to know it before accepting the village’s first challenge.
Area Enemies
Toad is useful crowd control, especially against Warrior and Fiend groups. Have Rydia cast it early, then let Cecil, Kain, and Edge finish the transformed enemies. If one resists, target that one rather than casting on all the frogs again and undoing your own work. Hooligan can also be transformed; don’t let its small group size convince you it can’t hurt the casters.
Kill Conjurer promptly. It can Call additional enemies, including HugeNaga and Clapper. More enemies mean more time taking damage, so this isn’t a good place to hold off while Edge repeatedly tries to steal something inexpensive. Use focused physical attacks against Clapper rather than assuming the same spell works on everything it calls.
Keep Float active against Arachne’s GaiaRage. Equipment: ArrowsEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Rydia (both forms), Rosa, Cid, Palom, Porom, Edward, FuSoYa. Power 35. Attacks may inflict Silence. Effective against Mage enemies. Requires a bow-and-arrow pair. are still useful ammunition, but don’t rely on Silence to stop that attack. Float is the protection to maintain. Once the dangerous enemies are controlled, Rosa can Pray to save MP; when someone is close to falling over, use a Cure spell or an item instead of hoping the prayer is answered.
First Floor
There are three chests before the next staircase:
- Head east and north for ItemRevives a KO'd ally. Can appear as loot from a FloatEye and Eagle formation southwest of Baron..
- Go west through the hidden passage to collect Ether1.
- Return east, then follow the path south for HiPotion.
From the southern chest, follow the path west, north, west, and south to the next floor. Heal before continuing if the battles have worn the party down.
Second Floor
Renew Float before walking across the damaging ground. At the eastern split, take the southeastern branch for HiPotion. Head north, then west at the next split for Cabin. Return to the onward path and continue north and east to B3F. Those two chests finish this floor’s treasure.
B3F: Hidden Weapons
Cast Float again. Follow the winding path toward the southern ItemRevives a KO'd ally. Can appear as loot from a FloatEye and Eagle formation southwest of Baron. chest, then go directly east for Bestiary. The wall east of that chest hides a passage: follow it south, west, and finally north into the three-chest pocket containing HiPotion, Equipment: AxesEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain, Cid. Power 95; Acc 60%. Attacks may inflict Poison. Effective against Giant enemies. Reusable Item spell: Venom. Uses both hands; no shield., and Equipment: Ninja swordsEquippable by Edge. Power 48; Acc 90%; Strength +5..
Equip Equipment: Ninja swordsEquippable by Edge. Power 48; Acc 90%; Strength +5. on Edge in place of Equipment: Ninja swordsEquippable by Edge. Power 32; Acc 90%., keeping WeaponEquippable by Edge. Power 40; Acc 85%. Attack element: Projectile. in the other hand if you’ve followed the Sylvan route. Retain the displaced sword until you’re ready to store or sell it. Equipment: AxesEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain, Cid. Power 95; Acc 60%. Attacks may inflict Poison. Effective against Giant enemies. Reusable Item spell: Venom. Uses both hands; no shield. is another option to compare, not a reason to strip Cecil’s shield and abandon his current setup immediately.
Retrace the hidden passage to the main route. Continue north and west toward the remaining chest, but heal before opening it. Five Warriors guard Equipment: SwordsEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain. Power 105; Acc 90%. Reusable Item spell: Armor.. Rydia’s Toad-all can make this much more manageable; finish transformed targets with physical attacks and deal with any that resist. Keep Rosa available for reliable healing while the opening round is still dangerous.
Equip Defense on Cecil, retaining his shield. Compared with Equipment: SwordsEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain. Power 75; Acc 80%. Attack element: Ice., this is a useful attack and durability upgrade. Store Equipment: SwordsEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain. Power 75; Acc 80%. Attack element: Ice. later rather than discarding an elemental option just to make room.
At this point you should have collected six B3F treasures: ItemRevives a KO'd ally. Can appear as loot from a FloatEye and Eagle formation southwest of Baron., Bestiary, HiPotion, Equipment: AxesEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain, Cid. Power 95; Acc 60%. Attacks may inflict Poison. Effective against Giant enemies. Reusable Item spell: Venom. Uses both hands; no shield., Equipment: Ninja swordsEquippable by Edge. Power 48; Acc 90%; Strength +5., and Defense. Follow the route east and south, then through the short western passage to the gray teleporter. Step onto the tile to enter the Land of Summons.
