HolyLnce and Ribbons

Return to B7’s southern hall. The left cave is your save room, the middle cave contains the lance, and the right cave contains the ArmorEquippable by Everyone except Cecil (Dark Knight). Def 9; Eva +2%; Mag Def 12; Mag Eva 12%. Protects against Poison, Darkness, Silence, Pig, Mini, Toad, Petrify, KO, Berserk, Confuse, Sleep, Paralyze, Curse, Gradual Petrification. Status protection does not prevent damage or guarantee safety from scripted attacks.. Don’t be afraid to use a Cabin and save before each guardian rather than treating all three rooms as one uninterrupted event.

The middle cave’s WeaponEquippable by Kain. Power 109; Acc 80%. Attack element: Holy, Projectile. Effective against Ghoul enemies. Reusable Item spell: Holy. is guarded by Plague. Have strong attacks and WeaponEquippable by Edge (Throw only). Power 80; Acc 99%. Attack element: Projectile. Consumed by Edge’s Throw; not an equippable hand weapon. ready before interacting with the lance. This battle is decided by a countdown, not by how many Cure spells you can afford.

Plague casts Doom on the whole party. Attack immediately with Cecil, Kain and Edge; use WeaponEquippable by Edge (Throw only). Power 80; Acc 99%. Attack element: Projectile. Consumed by Edge’s Throw; not an equippable hand weapon. and Rydia’s strongest practical damage. Don’t spend the opening on an elaborate defensive arrangement that won’t prevent the countdown deaths.

If the party can’t finish quickly enough, reviving a KO’d character can prompt Plague to cast Doom again, resetting the remaining countdowns. The recast is not instantaneous. Act before everybody reaches zero, and keep Rosa available rather than deliberately sacrificing the only person ready to recover the party. If you choose to create a KO yourself for this tactic, use a nonhealer and have the revival action ready.

While it might be temping to cast slow on your party to have them live longer, it doesn’t work that way. If you need more time, reduce your battle speed. Also, Odin doesn’t appear to connect, so use a different summon.

Collect WeaponEquippable by Kain. Power 109; Acc 80%. Attack element: Holy, Projectile. Effective against Ghoul enemies. Reusable Item spell: Holy., equip it in Kain’s left hand, and keep his shield in the right. Replacing WeaponEquippable by Kain. Power 92; Acc 80%; Vitality +15. Attack element: Projectile. loses its Vitality bonus; retain WeaponEquippable by Kain. Power 92; Acc 80%; Vitality +15. Attack element: Projectile. as a defensive alternative even though WeaponEquippable by Kain. Power 109; Acc 80%. Attack element: Holy, Projectile. Effective against Ghoul enemies. Reusable Item spell: Holy. is the more attractive offensive choice here.

Return to the left cave, revive anyone still down, rest and save.

Enter the right cave for two Lunasaurs. The two chests behind them are both worth opening after the battle.

The Lunasaurs use Wall and reflected Magic20-MP Black Magic learned by Palom at Level 19. Its combat effect has not yet been tested on this run., with other party damage to keep Rosa busy. Use Cecil and Kain’s strong attacks and Edge’s Throw, with Rydia helping through recovery items. Focus on removing one enemy instead of leaving two nearly dead opponents taking turns.

Watch for Wall appearing while a spell is queued. A Mute intended to make the fight safer can come back at your own party. Rosa’s dependable healing is more valuable than speculative status tricks here. Rydia’s long MagicTellah learns this after Cecil's summit trial. Its 99-MP cost exceeds his 90 maximum MP. charge is also a commitment; if the party is struggling, use a faster established attack or help with recovery.

Who Gets the Ribbons?

Open both ArmorEquippable by Everyone except Cecil (Dark Knight). Def 9; Eva +2%; Mag Def 12; Mag Eva 12%. Protects against Poison, Darkness, Silence, Pig, Mini, Toad, Petrify, KO, Berserk, Confuse, Sleep, Paralyze, Curse, Gradual Petrification. Status protection does not prevent damage or guarantee safety from scripted attacks. chests. Give one to Rosa, since protecting the healer helps everyone. For the second, compare Edge and Rydia. Edge is a useful default recipient while Rydia keeps EquipmentEquippable by Rydia (both forms), Rosa, Porom. Def 7; Eva 0; Mag Def 10; Mag Eva 9%; Wisdom +10. Resists Lightning.‘s Wisdom bonus. Giving it to Rydia for protection is also reasonable; just recognize that the loss of Wisdom is an equipment change, not a bad level-up.

Return to the save cave, use a Cabin and save again. With the lance, both ArmorEquippable by Everyone except Cecil (Dark Knight). Def 9; Eva +2%; Mag Def 12; Mag Eva 12%. Protects against Poison, Darkness, Silence, Pig, Mini, Toad, Petrify, KO, Berserk, Confuse, Sleep, Paralyze, Curse, Gradual Petrification. Status protection does not prevent damage or guarantee safety from scripted attacks. and Ragnarok collected, we’re ready for the crystal floors and Edge’s last sword.

LEVEL-GRIND NOTE: If you want a good place to level grind, running back and forth in front of these three cave openings is about as good as it gets. The enemies provide decent XP, and you can usually just press X instead of having to choose new equipment, spell types, etc. Also, it’s close to the Cabin spot, so you can get your magic refreshed on the cheap. Or if you are teh moneh-bagz, just use a few elixirs and you’re good to go again. This is even more helpful if you’re on an emulator and can play at double speed. This is where I went from level 50ish to level 99ish. Don’t forget my earlier note about watching your money. If you max out the Gil, use exit and buy more Elixir, WeaponEquippable by Edge (Throw only). Power 80; Acc 99%. Attack element: Projectile. Consumed by Edge’s Throw; not an equippable hand weapon., and Yochi arrows. That last one is kind of important, because you’ll find just pressing X and having Rosa attack will drain a stack of 99 arrows somewhat more quickly than you’d think. Or at least than I’d think.
