Mysidia and the Lunar Whale
Return to Mysidia and follow the Elder’s invitation to the House of Prayer. You aren’t missing another dungeon between Cid’s drill upgrade and this visit. This is where the next part of the story begins.
Warning: Flashing lights ahead: the upcoming prayer and Lunar Whale sequence includes repeated full-screen color flashes. This is a good point to pause before the scene starts if that’s going to be a problem for you (or if you need to dim your monitor or whatever.)
Watch the conversation and prayer, then leave town and walk west to the newly raised Lunar Whale. Keep a separate memory-card save before your first Moon trip if you like having a clean chapter checkpoint.
Explore the Ship Before Taking Off
The ship contains three particularly useful things:
| Feature | What to do with it |
|---|---|
| Flight controls | Fly around the world you’re currently visiting. |
| Travel crystal | Travel between Earth and the Moon. This is not the ordinary flight control. |
| Sleeping compartment and Fat Chocobo | Rest for free and organize your stored items before a dungeon without using Gysahl. |
Interact with the sleeping compartment. It isn’t just scenery. Free HP/MP restoration aboard your own ship is a very good reason not to burn an Elixir immediately after every expedition.
Use Fat Chocobo to store obsolete equipment, duplicate armor and ammunition you won’t use on this trip. Keep Cabins, ItemRevives a KO'd ally. Can appear as loot from a FloatEye and Eagle formation southwest of Baron., status cures, MP recovery, useful arrows, and MoonVeil/StarVeil accessible. The veils will be helpful for an optional boss shortly. Don’t fill every newly freed slot with a different throwable; the Moon has equipment to collect.
First Lunar Landing
Use the crystal inside the ship to reach the Moon. For the story route, look for Crystal Palace, the conspicuous palace surrounded by raised lunar terrain. You cannot simply land at its doorstep. Land on the smooth ground west of it and approach the first Lunar Path on foot.
If you find Cave Bahamut, you’re at the optional crater dungeon instead. There’s no penalty for turning around. Visit the palace first so you can bring another party member to that challenge.
The next page covers both passages and the palace. Before leaving the ship, make sure Rosa actually has arrows equipped, not just a bow and an optimistic expression.
