Final Fantasy IV PS1 Character Guide

Rosa: Abilities and Level Progression

Rosa is our White Mage, and keeping everyone alive is her most important job. Give her a bow so she can contribute between emergencies, but don’t spend her healing turn chasing one more arrow’s worth of damage. The best equipment in the world isn’t much use to someone lying face down.

She joins in Kaipo at Level 10. Keep her in the back row. She’s right-handed: equip arrows in her right hand and the bow in her left (really; it affects her damage; try it and see).

What Does She Learn Next?

These early spells are learned by level, not by reaching a particular dungeon or defeating a particular boss.

Level 12Armor9Adding physical protection.
Level 13Cure29Stronger healing. A particularly useful early milestone.
Level 15Mute6Trying to silence a spellcaster. Not every special attack is stopped by silence.

If you’re close to Level 13 and heading into a difficult fight, Cure2 is a good reason to consider another battle or two. You don’t need to reproduce the walkthrough’s exact level at every location.

The verified learning-level list is still being completed. A missing row does NOT mean Rosa learns nothing at that level.

These additional spells are confirmed available by the listed level; their exact learning levels are not yet established in this reference. Don’t read “by Level 32” as “learns at Level 32.”

A spell greyed out in the field menu may still be usable in battle. Check the context before assuming it hasn’t been learned.

Early Base Stats by Level

These are base primary stats, with equipment bonuses removed. HP and MP are the recorded maxima from this run, not guaranteed rolls. A dash means the base value is not established; missing levels are not interpolated. Attack, Defense and their multipliers are separate derived combat values. Her early outfit has no primary-stat bonuses, so those readings already equal her base values.

Commands Worth Knowing

Rosa’s battle menu contains Fight, White, Pray, Aim, and Item.

For a routine battle, Pray can save you some healing afterward. When someone is in danger, choose a reliable cure instead of hoping the prayer goes through.

Equipment Modifiers

Equipment bonuses are fixed; they do not increase with your level. Add these primary-stat modifiers to the base values above. Defense and evasion belong to the equipment/combat calculation, not the five primary stats. This is the relevant equipment selection, not an exhaustive catalog.

If the equipment menu refuses a swap, empty both hands first, then equip the intended pair.

Use ordinary arrows when they’re sufficient and save useful elemental ammunition for suitable enemies. Watch the EQUIPPED stack, not just the spare arrows in inventory. An empty hand can explain a sudden stat change that looks like a bad level-up.

Later equipment can also change primary stats. Compare the same outfit before and after a level-up; a stronger bow or a different hat can otherwise obscure what actually changed. See handedness and bow-arrow alignment.

Later party return: equipment reminder (story spoilers)

When Rosa returns at the Tower of Zot, don’t assume she’s still wearing the outfit you gave her before leaving. Check every slot before moving away from the rescue location. Equip a carried bow and arrows, and use retained Tiara, Wizard armor, and Rune if available. Keep her in back and restore the OTHER characters’ HP too; Rosa being healthy doesn’t mean everyone else is.

Level 70 and Beyond

Late-level stat gains are not a single fixed ladder. Don’t expect a particular Level 99 stat line just because another party reached it. Gear and your sequence of level-up rolls both matter.

One Level 99 run using optional save-state rerolls finished with these unequipped primary stats: Str69, Agil54, Vit66, Wis37, Will99, with7186 max HP and834 max MP. These are an example, not promised totals.

If you want to experiment with retrying a level-up using emulator save states, see the Leveling and Grinding reference. You don’t need a perfectly optimized Rosa to finish the game.
