Getting Started
Welcome! This is a walkthrough for the North American PlayStation release of Final Fantasy IV included in Final Fantasy Chronicles. If your disc or emulator identifies it as SLUS-01360, you’re in the right place. Other editions change names, mechanics, and sometimes rather more than that, so don’t assume every tip carries over.
What to expect
The walkthrough takes you through the story in order, with directions, treasure stops, and advice before the fights that can ruin your afternoon. Optional detours belong where you can actually do them. We’ll warn you about preparations and party changes when you need to act, without explaining every plot twist in advance.
Reference pages are a little different: they’re meant to answer a question quickly, and their later sections can contain spoilers. Use the section for your current area if you’d rather not know who or what is coming.
- Items and Equipment covers shopping, reusable weapons, inventory space, and equipment tradeoffs.
- Enemies and Battle Strategy helps when holding down Attack stops being a viable plan.
- World Map and Travel provides bearings and vehicle reminders.
- The character references list abilities, level growth, and equipment modifiers separately. A fully equipped Status screen is not the same thing as a character’s base stats.
Before setting out
Keep rotating in-game saves, especially before a major transition. Emulator save states are handy, but don’t make your only good save the one you’re about to overwrite. The settings and emulator notes explain Memo saves and optional level-up retries.
Heal before boss fights, keep fragile characters protected in the back row, and leave a few inventory slots open for treasure. Once your casters have more than 100 MP, a ItemField/save-point recovery, restoring up to 1,000 HP and 100 MP. At higher levels, check your remaining deficits before continuing. may no longer fill them up; check the menu after resting.
Grinding is optional, not a moral failing. If you enjoy getting comfortable with a new party or experimenting with abilities, go for it. You don’t need to reproduce the levels of a heavily leveled party to follow the route, and a listed damage example is not a promise that your attack will produce exactly that number.
