Sylvan Cave and the House
Save outside Sylvan Cave, then cast Float on the entire party as soon as you enter. Repeat it after every screen transition, including returning to a floor you already visited. Restore protection on revived characters before walking too. Those glowing floor tiles are not decorative, and yesterday’s Float is not today’s Float. Neither is the one from the previous room, apparently.
This cave has two substantial branches. We’ll visit the save point and house first, then return for the northern treasure circuit. You don’t need to finish both on the same supply load.
Area Enemies
Control the dangerous enemies before trying to win a damage race. Rydia’s Toad works against Ghost and Malboro and makes their ordinary physical attacks much less threatening. Cast it early. Don’t keep casting Toad-all once some enemies are already frogs: it can turn them back.
Against Ghost and DarkTree together, transform the Ghosts and concentrate the fighters on the trees. Ghost absorbs Fire; DarkTree is weak to it. Use single-target Fire on a tree if needed, not Fire-all across the mixed group. Rosa can use Mute against spellcasters when healing isn’t urgent, and Equipment: ArrowsEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Rydia (both forms), Rosa, Cid, Palom, Porom, Edward, FuSoYa. Power 35. Attacks may inflict Silence. Effective against Mage enemies. Requires a bow-and-arrow pair. are useful here, but silence doesn’t stop physical attacks or every special ability.
Against ToadLady and TinyToads, focus on the lady and watch who is currently transformed. TinyToad is weak to Ice. If the party gets turned into frogs, Rydia’s Toad can reverse it; don’t leave the whole party hopping into the next encounter unnecessarily.
Once the battle is controlled, Rosa can Pray for free incremental healing and Edge can try stealing. Malboro can supply Remedy; Ghost can supply Potion. Don’t prolong an unstable fight for either. Pray can fail, and transformation doesn’t remove existing poison or guarantee that no dangerous action will occur. Use dependable healing when someone is near death.
Entrance to the Save Room
Collect the two reachable eastern chests for Bestiary and 10 Equipment: ArrowsEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Rydia (both forms), Rosa, Cid, Palom, Porom, Edward, FuSoYa. Power 40. Attacks may inflict Confuse. Effective against Giant enemies. Requires a bow-and-arrow pair.. The third chest you can see is reached from another part of the map; don’t waste time trying to walk straight through everything beside it.
Take the southern stairs to B2F and recast Float. At the first split, take the southern route upstairs into another B1F section. The northern loop is our later treasure route.
Go east to the save point. From there, follow the right-side wall north and enter the hidden passage. It runs east and then south to the previously inaccessible chest: Equipment: BowsEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Rydia (both forms), Rosa, Cid, Palom, Porom, Edward, FuSoYa. Power 25; Acc 75%; Wisdom +5. Attack element: Projectile. Effective against Mage enemies. Reusable Item spell: Shell. Requires a bow-and-arrow pair..

Reusable Item spell: Shell. Requires a bow-and-arrow pair. is worth comparing with Rosa’s Archer. It improves accuracy, but the stat trade can also change her attack multiplier. Keep Archer until you’ve decided which works better for your setup. Arrows still go in RHnd, bow in LHnd.
Back at the save point, recover and save. Then head west to the paired chests: Cabin on the left, 1,000 Gil on the right. Take the onward stairs down to B2F and refresh Float.
Upper Cache and MageMash
Follow this B2F corridor north. The first onward upstairs branch leads to the remaining top-floor cache; it is not the stairs you just used to arrive. Collect all five chests:
| Position | Contents |
|---|---|
| Vertical pair, top | HiPotion |
| Vertical pair, bottom | Ether1 |
| Horizontal trio, left | 10 Ice arrows |
| Horizontal trio, middle | 10 Bolt arrows |
| Horizontal trio, right | 10 Fire arrows |
Return downstairs and cast Float again. Before taking the later stairs toward the house, push through the eastern wall and follow the hidden route around to the isolated chest. Heal first: it holds ToadLady and six TinyToads, with Equipment: DaggersEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain, Edge, Rydia (both forms), Palom, Edward. Power 35; Acc 75%; Wisdom +5. Attacks may inflict Silence. Effective against Mage enemies. as the reward. Keep Rosa available to cure status and heal while the others remove the threats.
Equipment: DaggersEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain, Edge, Rydia (both forms), Palom, Edward. Power 35; Acc 75%; Wisdom +5. Attacks may inflict Silence. Effective against Mage enemies. is a useful situational weapon, especially for an Edge comparison against mages. It isn’t a reason to replace Rydia’s casting rod just because her displayed Attack rises. We will find a particularly useful rod on the other branch.
The Sylphs’ House
Retrace the hidden path and take the remaining house-route stairs to B3F. Refresh Float, then use the hidden western approach to collect Elixir before entering the house.
Talk to the Sylphs and examine Yang’s bed. The chests on the right hold Equipment: ClawsEquippable by Edge, Yang. Power 0; Acc 99%; Strength +5, Agility +5. Attacks may inflict Sleep. above and Equipment: ClawsEquippable by Edge, Yang. Power 0; Acc 90%; Strength +3. Attacks may inflict Poison. below. Yang is asleep, and ordinary recovery items aren’t the answer. Leave this as a return visit once we can reach the surface again.
A note for completionists: Yes, I know some guides list a Grimoire to be found here, but it doesn’t appear to be available in this version.
The house does not finish the northern branch. To start the next circuit with a fresh party, use Exit, recover outside, save, and re-enter. Otherwise retrace the route to the original B2F junction. Either way, remember Float after every transition.
