World Map and Travel

For those of us blindly careening around an overworld our emulator has turned into visual soup, here is a starting point. This is a schematic, not a verified coastline map. The outlined regions group landmarks; their shapes and distances are not game terrain. North is up. It covers selected landmarks, not every destination or secret.

Schematic showing selected surface landmarks and the Mythril-to-Adamant-Grotto hovercraft connection. Not a coastline or walking-route map.

Open the large map. Use the written checkpoints below rather than treating a straight line between markers as a walkable route. The diagram does not show exact coastlines, river crossings, landing tiles, or world-edge connections.

Useful flight landmarks

For underground destinations, use the separate Underworld Map and Travel reference. Troia and the Magnetic Cavern are surface destinations; Troia is in the forested region northwest of Baron.

The Lunar Whale has beds, not just a Fat Chocobo

On boarding the Lunar Whale, walk south from the main control room into the compartment lined with narrow beds or sleeping pods. Examine a bed: the message “Good night.” starts the rest sequence, followed by “All set!”. This is the ship’s recovery facility; it is easy to overlook because there is no innkeeper. The Fat Chocobo occupies the separate compartment farther south. Rest before setting out, and check your menu afterward rather than assuming that merely boarding healed the party.

For additional directions, see Dev’s PS1 walkthrough. The PS1 world-location index lists destinations; it is not a source for the schematic’s drawn coastlines.

Batch the surface errands

Once you can return to the surface, collect Pan from Yang’s wife in Fabul and exchange Rat Tail for Adamant at the grotto before the next Underworld trip. That lets you combine the Yang recovery visit and smith delivery; return Pan to the wife on the following surface visit. Keep Legend for the smith and preserve the wife’s Knife reward rather than spending it casually.

The smith does not finish immediately. Continue the story rather than idling or grinding to pass real-world time: completion requires the Lunar Whale to become available. Smith reference

Flashing lights: before returning to Mysidia for the Elder’s next story sequence, be aware that the prayer and Lunar Whale scene includes repeated full-screen color flashes.
