Final Fantasy IV PS1 Walkthrough

Mt. Ordeals

Come here with full HP and MP, Cecil in front, and the twins in back. The mountain has plenty of undead, and Cecil’s dark sword is about to feel considerably less impressive.

The Lower Climb

Head left from the entrance toward the flames. Palom clears the barrier for us.

Work upward, opening the Potion chest on the right-hand terrace and the next Potion chest farther up on the right. Then take the upper-left doorway and continue up the stairs to meet Tellah.

Against Skeletons and Ghouls, let Palom’s Fire magic do the work. Check the other targets first, though: Enemy200 HP. Absorbs Fire; avoid including it in group Fire casts. and Spirit absorb Fire, so don’t include them in a group cast. MagicBlack Magic in Tellah's post-trial menu, costing 15 MP. Its effect has not yet been tested on this run. costs 15 MP but is much more effective at clearing a suitable group than repeatedly chipping away with MagicA 5-MP Black Magic spell on Tellah's starting list that Rydia learns while melting the ice at Mt. Hobs-West.. Porom should heal; Cecil can use items or Parry when his sword isn’t accomplishing much.

Tellah rejoins the party while pursuing his own mission. This scene does NOT refill the twins’ MP, so check their reserves before continuing.

If you have a spare EquipmentEquippable by Everyone except Cecil (Dark Knight). Def 2; Eva −4%; Mag Def 3; Mag Eva 3%., try it on Tellah. He rejoined my party with an empty head slot, and the Feather improved both kinds of defense. Keep all three mages in back.

Two Ethers and a Save Point

From the reunion area, continue through Elevation 3 to Elevation 7.

Take the short stairs on the left for Ether1, then return and use the longer stairs on the right. Follow the route across the left-hand bridge and check the short downward branch for another Ether1 before entering the Summit.

On the Summit, cross the bridge to the right to find a save field. Recover and save here before investigating the other bridge.

A ItemField/save-point recovery, restoring up to 1,000 HP and 100 MP. At higher levels, check your remaining deficits before continuing. may LOOK like a complete refill at low levels, but that won’t always last. It restores 100MP, so if a character is down to 0/125 MP, it will only bring them back to 100/125. You may want to check the actual result before heading into a boss fight.

Save your game before moving on.

Boss Fight Prep

Heal everyone and leave enough MP for more than one encounter. Our first opponent is waiting near the western bridge.

Porom’s Cure2 can damage a EnemyFour accompany Milon in the first summit bridge battle. In the recording, Cure2-all damaged them and Fire2-all finished them., but it HEALED Milon in my test. That’s an unpleasant distinction to discover after spending the MP. Cecil can hurt Milon with normal attacks, even though many of the mountain’s ordinary enemies resist his weapon badly.

After winning, return to the save field. Heal and save again. Yes, already.

The Other Bridge Fight

Crossing the bridge brings another confrontation, this time with MilonZ. It starts as a back attack. Check the formation immediately and use Row to get Cecil in front and the mages protected.

Don’t spend every mage’s turn attacking if the next enemy turn could flatten someone. We’re close to the goal, but this isn’t the place to economize on healing.

Cecil’s Trial

Continue into the shrine. During Cecil’s solo confrontation with the D. Knight, resist the obvious temptation to fight back. Use Parry and let the trial unfold; heal with an item if necessary.

Cecil emerges as a Level 1 Paladin with 600 maximum HP, 10 MP, and the WeaponEquippable by Cecil (Paladin). Power 40; Acc 99%; Will +3. Attack element: Holy. Keep for the forging quest; it cannot be stored with Fat Chocobo.. This is a new class’s starting point, not the game deleting all your progress.

Review his equipment before leaving. His old dark-knight outfit isn’t the solution anymore. A EquipmentGloves. Def 0; Eva 0; Mag Def 3; Mag Eva 2%. Protects against Pig. Equippable by Everyone except Cecil (Dark Knight). is usable; an EquipmentEquippable by Edge, Rydia (both forms), Rosa, Yang, Palom, Porom, Edward, Tellah, FuSoYa. Def 2; Eva 0; Mag Def 2; Mag Eva 1%. is not. Equip compatible pieces you already have and leave the mages’ working outfits alone unless a comparison gives you a reason to change them.

Tellah also regains his magic. You’ll notice MagicTellah learns this after Cecil's summit trial. Its 99-MP cost exceeds his 90 maximum MP. costs 99 MP while his maximum is only 90. You aren’t overlooking an equipment purchase that makes the numbers work. For now, use the considerable selection of spells he CAN cast.

Back to Mysidia

Descend the mountain carefully, healing as needed. Cecil will gain early Paladin levels quickly, but he’s still adjusting to the new role. Return to Mysidia and visit the armor shop.

The complete Paladin outfit costs 15,700 Gil:

Buy and equip what you can afford. If your run hasn’t involved as much grinding as mine, check your purse before assuming you can purchase the entire set.

Talk to the townspeople again; much of their dialogue has changed. The dancer still turns the party into pigs, though. If Palom has learned Piggy, its 1 MP spell can reverse that on one character or the whole group.

Visit the Elder and let the conversation play out. The twins remain with you, and the Devil’s Road becomes our route back to Baron.

When you’re ready, use the Devil’s Road on the east side of town. The transporter takes you to the previously locked building in southern Baron. Heal and save before exploring our old hometown with the new party.
