EvilWall and the Surface

The Crystal is ours. Naturally, leaving with it can’t be as simple as walking back across a bridge. Make sure everyone is healed after the final TrapDoor before starting back from the Crystal Room.

Boss Fight Prep

This is a damage race, not a battle to settle into while Edge searches the enemy’s pockets. Keep Cecil’s Equipment: SwordsEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain. Power 105; Acc 90%. Reusable Item spell: Armor. equipped, Kain ready to attack, and Rydia supplied with casting MP. Have your Throw items easy to find.

If selecting commands quickly is uncomfortable, set Bat Spd to 6 (Slow) and use Wait before the fight. Giving yourself more manageable menu time is a perfectly reasonable adjustment, not a failure to play correctly. It doesn’t remove the need to attack efficiently.

EvilWall has 28,000 HP and keeps moving closer. Once it reaches the party, Crush kills characters one at a time. You want to finish before that point, not prove that you brought enough ItemRevives a KO'd ally. Can appear as loot from a FloatEye and Eagle formation southwest of Baron. to keep feeding people into it.

Have Rosa cast Slow early. Then use MagicWhite Magic confirmed in Porom's Level 18 menu, costing 18 MP. Its effect has not yet been tested on this run. and Haste on your physical attackers while there is still time to benefit from them. Cecil and Kain can attack repeatedly; Edge should attack or Throw Equipment: ThrowablesEquippable by Edge (Throw only). Power 40; Acc 99%. Attack element: Projectile. Consumed by Edge’s Throw; not an equippable hand weapon./WeaponEquippable by Edge (Throw only). Power 80; Acc 99%. Attack element: Projectile. Consumed by Edge’s Throw; not an equippable hand weapon., and Rydia should keep summoning SummonBattle-menu summon learned from Leviatan. All-target offense is unsafe while CPU's Attacker must survive. if you earned it. If not, Magic20-MP Black Magic learned by Palom at Level 19. Its combat effect has not yet been tested on this run. is a practical alternative. Keep Rosa free to heal or cure status trouble when necessary instead of making every party member uncontrollable.

Prioritize the early buffs rather than spending many turns setting up an elaborate combination. A MagicWhite Magic confirmed in Porom's Level 18 menu, costing 18 MP. Its effect has not yet been tested on this run. cast just before the final blow doesn’t help nearly as much as one near the beginning. Avoid optional steals, equipment experiments, and unnecessary menu browsing during the race.

If the wall wins, return to your pre-fight save and streamline the opening before assuming more grinding is required. Restore HP/MP, check equipment, slow the battle setting if needed, and put damage ahead of optional actions. Since you can’t use Exit, this might be a spot to grind a bit if needed.

Before Leaving the Cave

After victory, return to the B4F save room. Use a Cabin and save, then remove all five pieces of Kain’s equipment before leaving the cave. Make enough bag space to retain both hand items, his helmet, body armor, and arms equipment. Do this after EvilWall, not before fighting it.

You can use Warp from the higher floors to shorten the return, or retrace the cleared route. Exit still won’t work. Near the entrance, the next scene removes Kain and the Crystal from the party. Having his useful equipment in your inventory makes this development slightly less expensive.

Dwarven Castle and Cid’s Drill

Return to King Giott at Dwarven Castle. Follow the discussion of Mysidia and the Lunar Whale, then Cid’s offer to modify Falcon again. This time it gets a drill, reopening the route to the surface.

There are only so many ways to show shipbuilding with old-school sprites. Apparently, running everybody back and forth across the deck does the trick. Anyone else find if funny that Edge says his hat’s off to Cid? I mean, just look at him.

Anyway, once the scene finishes, Cid can remain in the infirmary. You don’t need to find another cure for him before leaving. Yang’s situation is a separate optional errand; visiting the surface is how we’ll obtain what he needs.

Equipment and Storage Check

Before feeding Fat Chocobo, compare Kain’s former gear with Cecil’s current equipment. A spare Equipment: ShieldsEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain, Cid. Def 4; Eva +34%; Mag Def 5; Mag Eva 4%; Wisdom +3. Protects against Petrify. or Diamond piece may duplicate what Cecil already wears. If Kain had ArmorEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain, Edge, Rydia (adult), Cid, Yang. Def 10; Eva −10%; Mag Def 0; Mag Eva 0; Strength +10, Vitality +10. Protects against Mini. Compare the primary-stat benefit with better magic defense, elemental resistance or status protection, especially near the stat cap., try it on Cecil before storing it. Its Strength and Vitality bonuses can improve his physical performance, but you give up some magical protection compared with Equipment: Hand armor and ringsEquippable by Cecil (Paladin), Kain, Cid. Def 7; Eva −10%; Mag Def 3; Mag Eva 3%. Resists Lightning.. Keep the alternative in storage rather than treating either as best for every encounter.

Store the spare spear, duplicate shields and armor, and other unused equipment. Keep recovery supplies, ammunition, Gysahl, Rat Tail, and WeaponEquippable by Cecil (Paladin). Power 40; Acc 99%; Will +3. Attack element: Holy. Keep for the forging quest; it cannot be stored with Fat Chocobo.. Those last two matter for the upcoming surface errands. If Legend can’t be stored, that isn’t a reason to try to get rid of it another way.

Back to the Surface

Board Falcon and head for the northeastern Underworld opening. The drill reopens the passage, bringing you out near Agart. Save once you’re safely back outside.

Mysidia is the next story destination, but we’ll take care of a few errands first. Collect Pan from Yang’s wife in Fabul and exchange Rat Tail at Adamant Grotto before the next trip underground. That lets us combine Yang’s recovery with delivery of the smith’s materials rather than repeatedly crossing between worlds for one item at a time.

The grotto visit needs Enterprise and the hovercraft. Falcon’s drill does not give it Enterprise’s carrying hook, and your old vehicles are wherever you parked them. Keep that distinction in mind before flying straight to the tail collector and wondering why you can’t land at his front door.
