Final Fantasy XII Walkthrough
Dreadnought Leviathan
Infiltrate the Leviathan
Did you catch the subtle word play involved when Ondore turned everyone over? He knew exactly where Ashe was being held, and provided Basch the opportunity to get sent there. He also made himself look like the imperial puppet in the meantime. Clever, no? Anyway, after a LOT of cut scenes, you’ll get Vossler and a map. Save in a new slot, and have a quick look around. There weren’t any chests in the Port Launch when I looked.
There are red beams that cut across hallways; try not to break them. Other than that, explore away and take whatever you can find. There’s an area in the southwest section of the Port Section that appears to have a chest, but don’t be fooled - if you go after it (it’s got 240 Gil) be sure to run back out as quick as possible (don’t turn the camera around, just run fast). Those red beams will appear AFTER you’ve gone in there, making it impossible to leave without setting off the alarm. There are other hallways that will do the same. I found Gambit Target: AllySelects an ally currently affected by HP Critical. in the Port Section’s far southeast exit once. I found the Gambit Target: AllySelects an ally whose current HP is below 80%.Gambit somewhere else throughout the ship.
The Ancient Sword Detour
Use your map. I made my way to the Sub-control Room and found a hidden area on the far left. I got an Weapon: Sword35 Attack, has a 15% chance to inflict Petrify, and requires Swords 2. A hidden Sub-control Room treasure can provide it during the Leviathan infiltration. there twice (and a ItemRevives one KO’d ally with 20% maximum HP before Phoenix Lore and item-effect bonuses. the next). Unless you picked up some Weapon: Katana50 Attack and requires Katana 1; it is a very rare Werewolf drop that can be farmed early but is never required. by hunting EnemyA level 19 to 21 Starfall Field enemy with 2,526 to 2,570 HP; avoid it early unless deliberately farming the rare Kotetsu drop. enemies, this Weapon: Sword35 Attack, has a 15% chance to inflict Petrify, and requires Swords 2. A hidden Sub-control Room treasure can provide it during the Leviathan infiltration. is likely going to be the best weapon you’ve come across so far.
Since you might also get something less awesome, you may want to NOT open these chests until you’ve come to another Save Crystal a little further along in the story. If you save there, you can come back and look for the sword, then reboot the console and reload the game to try again.
Reach Brig No. 1
To progress the story, you’ll need to open a couple of bulkheads (which you cannot do during an alarm - just wait and they’ll turn off eventually). Make your way to the Airship Berth Access, and from there to the Central Brig Access (Straight Down).
Steal if you want, then go after the Magus, and then the rest of the party. Frankly this was a pretty quick and easy fight, so it seemed like a bit of a misuse of the “congratulations” song. Anyway, now that you have the key, head to Brig No. 1 via the southeast exit.
Brig No. 1
Here you will have a few options. Open the door on your immediate right and open the Urn, then save. Next, open the door directly across from that one. Talk to Character / MerchantThe traveling merchant in Brig No. 1 aboard the Dreadnought Leviathan; restock and equip Ashe here before escaping. He later appears in Eruyt Village with important Magicks and status protection. there to buy stuff. Basically, he has most of the Gambits/Armor/Weapons/Etc. that you could have bought back in Bhujerba.
Now open the other doors and add Ashe to your party. Spend at LEAST 20 minutes doling out all those LP and equipping stuff (One time when I’d been experimenting with the zone-out glitch and farming EnemyA level 19 to 21 Starfall Field enemy with 2,526 to 2,570 HP; avoid it early unless deliberately farming the rare Kotetsu drop., Ashe joined my party with 3,725 LP.)
Return to Port Launch
Now make your way all the way back to where you started. As if that wasn’t annoying enough, you are able to do it while listening to that awful alarm racket the whole time.
If you leave via the Sub-control Room, you can use the Key ItemThe Leviathan Key Item found in Brig No. 1; use system-access terminals to suspend the ship’s alarm for 60 seconds. to disable the alarm twice on your way back to the hangar (where you first showed up). Partway to the hangar you will lose Vossler and gain Penelo. I’m not sure who came out ahead in that one, though. Open any chests you find, and continue on your way - but stop before you get there. You’ll be fighting a boss battle here, so be prepared. Get your best fighters and good healers, and be sure you’ve used the appropriate LP to buff your guys up. Cast Protect/Shell if you want, and head out.
There are three regular dudes, and Judge Ghis. Take out the regular guys first. I stole a ItemRestores 100 HP before Potion Lore and item-effect bonuses. from the Judge. Whee. When you get him down to 25% of his power, he’ll “slow down” and you’ll have a chance to escape. Watch a bunch of cut scenes.
After the Leviathan
You can buy the TechnickDeals fixed area damage based on steps since its last use; the counter resets after use or 1,000 steps. and TechnickDeals doubling fixed area damage on successive hits, but a miss resets the shared party counter to 1. Technicks. There are quite a few new Magicks for sale, too: White Magick22 MP. Removes KO and restores 40% of one ally’s maximum HP; it can instantly defeat an undead target., White Magick32 MP. Restores HP to all allies in range and damages undead targets., Time Magick18 MP. Attempts to remove all targets in range from battle with X-Zone., Time Magick12 MP. Attempts to inflict Sap on one target., Green Magick / Status Effect10 MP. Puts one target to sleep; sleeping targets take 50% more damage and physical hits wake them., Green Magick / Status Effect8 MP. Attempts to make all targets in range take triple Fire damage., and Arcane Magick / Status Effect10 MP. Doubles action-charge speed and raises normal attack damage by 50%, but removes direct control.. There is also a decent selection of weapons and armor. If you use shields, don’t miss this opportunity to get a Shield14 Evade and requires Shields 2 for 20 LP. It works only with a one-handed weapon, is the rare Steal from Ba’Gamnan, and becomes buyable after escaping the Dreadnought Leviathan. or two for your party. Migelo’s Sundries sells ItemRestores 400 HP before Potion Lore and item-effect bonuses. now, too.
You still cannot get past the Dalmasca Estersand, Dalmasca Westersand, or Nalbina Fortress guards. You can also take on the EnemyA passive level 29 to 30 dinosaur with about 6,000 HP, 2,753 to 2,766 EXP, and 2 LP; it is weak to Wind, but do not provoke it this early. or EnemyA level 19 to 21 Starfall Field enemy with 2,526 to 2,570 HP; avoid it early unless deliberately farming the rare Kotetsu drop. - either of which your guys can easily take at this point. You can also check out those caves in the Westersand, but you’ll get there soon enough anyway. Montblanc has no new hunts.
When you’re done shopping, head back to Bhujerba and go see His Excellency. Pay attention to these cut scenes.
