Via Purifico and Highbridge

Yuna Alone

Once you are finished watching the cutscenes, you’ll end up as Yuna, wandering around Via Purifico. Test out your new AeonNon-elemental aeon acquired in Bevelle whose attacks can exceed the normal 9,999 damage limit without a powered Celestial Weapon. Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. here. His Aeon AbilityBahamut's non-elemental special attack against all enemies. should make short work of groups of enemies. Be sure to use this opportunity to get ALL your Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. to an Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode..

Yuna begins alone, so summoning is considerably safer than trying to flee. 2Continue north and follow the corridor around to Auron and the second Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship..

4Backtrack west from Lulu, then continue south. Pass the next junction and enter the southwest room for an ItemFully restores one character's HP and MP.. Examine the broken glyph beside it; that activates the warp system.
5Return north to the previous junction and turn east. You will arrive back at the first Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship. with Kimahri, Auron, and Lulu in the party. Save.

10Head north through the red-lit hallway. EnemyWater-aligned Via Purifico fiend found exclusively in the final red-lit corridor before Isaaru. is the only random encounter here; unlike the rest of this maze, you cannot flee from it. Continue to the top to meet Isaaru.

If Yuna has reached Steal, the maze has some good targets. EnemyWater-aligned Via Purifico fiend found exclusively in the final red-lit corridor before Isaaru. carries a ItemUse item that deals minor Water damage to one enemy., or a rare ItemUse item that deals moderate Water damage to one enemy.; those items can teach an Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. Wht MagicMakes each active party member nullify one incoming Water-elemental hit. and Blk MagicDeals moderate Water-elemental magic damage to one enemy. respectively. If you stole enough ItemUse item that grants Haste to one character for the battle. from the Qactuar-style enemies in the Thunder Plains or Bikanel, ten can teach one Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. Wht MagicGrants Haste, making one target receive turns more frequently.. Teaching them Cheer, Aim, Focus, and Reflex can also make your Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. more self-sufficient. If you can’t do that, don’t worry. The fully charged Overdrives matter way more.

Isaaru’s Aeons

Isaaru starts with BossIsaaru's Ifrit, the first opponent in Via Purifico's three-part summoner duel., his Ifrit-type Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle.. I called AeonNon-elemental aeon acquired in Bevelle whose attacks can exceed the normal 9,999 damage limit without a powered Celestial Weapon., and since he was charged, I used Aeon OverdriveBahamut's non-elemental Overdrive, which can exceed the normal 9,999 damage limit.. Instant Battle SystemFinishing an enemy with at least its required final-hit damage threshold, commonly improving AP or item rewards. with about 25K damage. If your AeonNon-elemental aeon acquired in Bevelle whose attacks can exceed the normal 9,999 damage limit without a powered Celestial Weapon. is not doing numbers that silly, AeonIce-aligned aeon acquired during the Macalania Temple battle; she absorbs Ice and can heal herself with Ice magic. is a sensible choice: attack and use Shield when BossIsaaru's Ifrit, the first opponent in Via Purifico's three-part summoner duel. full gauge warns that Aeon OverdriveIfrit's Fire-elemental Overdrive against all enemies. is coming.

Next is BossIsaaru's Valefor, the second opponent in Via Purifico's three-part summoner duel., his Valefor-type Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle.. AeonNon-elemental aeon acquired in Bevelle whose attacks can exceed the normal 9,999 damage limit without a powered Celestial Weapon. is excellent here too. I had AeonNon-elemental aeon acquired in Bevelle whose attacks can exceed the normal 9,999 damage limit without a powered Celestial Weapon. cast Wht MagicGrants Haste, making one target receive turns more frequently., then Cheer and Reflex, and simply attacked until BossIsaaru's Valefor, the second opponent in Via Purifico's three-part summoner duel. was dead for another Battle SystemFinishing an enemy with at least its required final-hit damage threshold, commonly improving AP or item rewards.. BossIsaaru's Valefor, the second opponent in Via Purifico's three-part summoner duel. couldn’t touch my AeonNon-elemental aeon acquired in Bevelle whose attacks can exceed the normal 9,999 damage limit without a powered Celestial Weapon.. Without customized support abilities, use Boost to fill the gauge, but Shield when BossIsaaru's Valefor, the second opponent in Via Purifico's three-part summoner duel. is ready to fire Aeon OverdriveValefor's starting Overdrive, which damages every enemy.. You really shouldn’t have much trouble with this one.

Finally Isaaru calls BossIsaaru's Bahamut, whose countdown ends in Mega Flare during the final summoner duel., his Bahamut-type Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle., so you cannot use AeonNon-elemental aeon acquired in Bevelle whose attacks can exceed the normal 9,999 damage limit without a powered Celestial Weapon. yourself. I called a fully charged AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. and used Aeon OverdriveValefor's starting Overdrive, which damages every enemy. for 9,999, dismissed it, called a fully charged AeonYuna's second aeon, a Fire-elemental summon obtained at Kilika Temple that absorbs Fire damage. for a 9,999-damage Aeon OverdriveIfrit's Fire-elemental Overdrive against all enemies., then called a fully charged AeonLightning-aligned aeon acquired at Djose Temple; it absorbs Lightning and can cast Thundara when first obtained. for a 9,999-damage Aeon OverdriveIxion's Overdrive, which deals heavy non-elemental magic damage to all enemies despite its lightning-themed animation. and another Battle SystemFinishing an enemy with at least its required final-hit damage threshold, commonly improving AP or item rewards.. BossIsaaru's Bahamut, whose countdown ends in Mega Flare during the final summoner duel. never got in a shot. :D If you don’t have that much saved damage, attack while it counts down and Shield at zero. Do not dismiss your Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. when the countdown reaches 1; Aeon OverdriveBahamut's non-elemental Overdrive, which can exceed the normal 9,999 damage limit. will do more than 2,000 damage, almost certainly enough to KO her.

Waterworld

You are now Tidus with Wakka and Rikku. Remember that conversation with Lulu about having Rikku or Tidus learn some magic? It was for this area. If you made that jump, use Blk MagicDeals heavy Lightning-elemental magic damage to one enemy.; every random enemy in this sewer is weak to Lightning. Since I don’t typically go that route, I’ll also tell you how to get through without turning either one into Lulu.

Save, then swim right if you want to buy supplies: the treasure chest is an item shop. Continue forward and take the left branch. Rikku can throw ItemUse item that deals physical damage to all enemies., Wakka can pick off whatever looks particularly bitey, and Tidus can use Delay attacks on the EnemyLarge Via Purifico sewer fiend weak to Lightning and carrying two Dragon Scales as its common steal.. Blind an EnemyLarge Via Purifico sewer fiend weak to Lightning and carrying two Dragon Scales as its common steal. if you need to. Steal, too: EnemyLarge Via Purifico sewer fiend weak to Lightning and carrying two Dragon Scales as its common steal. and EnemyCharging Via Purifico sewer fiend weak to Lightning; repeatedly targeting it prepares its party-wide Sonic Wave. each carry two ItemUse item that deals moderate Water damage to one enemy. with a ItemUse item that strikes random enemies five times with Water damage. in the rare slot; EnemyVia Purifico sewer fiend weak to Lightning that should be removed before it can use Maelstrom. carries one ItemUse item that deals moderate Water damage to one enemy., or a rare two. Apparently prison sewer wildlife factories are yet another of Bevelle’s many secrets.

Use the second Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship.. Before swimming into the large round chamber, equip Equipment AbilityRaises the wearer's resistance to Petrification. or Equipment AbilityPrevents Petrification unless the incoming effect ignores immunity. if you have it. Underwater Status EffectTurns the target to stone and prevents action; a petrified target may also shatter and be removed from battle. removes a character from the battle, and the really big enemy here opens with Enemy AbilityEvrae's single-target gaze, which inflicts Petrification and a forced Slow effect..

Evrae Altana

You have basically three strategies. Number one is for a low-level party without the healing items below: open the locks on the gate. Do it twice and BossThe zombified Evrae fought underwater by Tidus, Wakka, and Rikku in the Via Purifico sewer. can’t strike back at close range; it uses ranged attacks while Rikku uses ItemRestores 1,000 HP to the active party and removes Poison, Silence, and Petrification. to keep everyone healthy. The tradeoff is real, though: continuing through the gates means missing the two equipment chests later.

Strategy number two is for a party that has been leveling a bit. Have Tidus cast Wht MagicGrants Haste to the active party., Wakka use SkillPhysical attack with a high chance to inflict Darkness for one turn., and Tidus use SkillPhysical attack that pushes the target's next turn farther backward than Delay Attack. when the turn order permits. Rikku can Mug while Wakka attacks. BossThe zombified Evrae fought underwater by Tidus, Wakka, and Rikku in the Via Purifico sewer. counters damage, so don’t get careless, but Darkness makes the physical hits much less reliable. Let Wakka land the final 2,000-damage shot if he can manage the Battle SystemFinishing an enemy with at least its required final-hit damage threshold, commonly improving AP or item rewards..

Strategy number three (also known as working smarter, not harder) is probably the easiest boss fight ever. This guy is ZOMBIED. Have two ItemRevives one KO'd character with half of their maximum HP. or ItemRestores 9,999 HP to one character. handy? Think they might be useful at a time like this…? :D Two ItemRevives one KO'd character with half of their maximum HP. are especially neat: each removes exactly half of BossThe zombified Evrae fought underwater by Tidus, Wakka, and Rikku in the Via Purifico sewer. starting HP, so the second hit is automatically an Battle SystemFinishing an enemy with at least its required final-hit damage threshold, commonly improving AP or item rewards..

After the battle, continue through the route without opening the gates. The first chest contains EquipmentWakka weapon found after Evrae Altana when the party does not retreat through the gates; it carries Evade & Counter., Wakka’s ball with Equipment AbilityEvades blockable physical attacks and counters them with a basic physical attack when possible.. Around the corner, the second contains EquipmentTidus weapon found after Evrae Altana when the party does not retreat through the gates; it carries Counterattack., Tidus’s sword with Equipment AbilityCounters damage from a physical attack with a basic physical attack when possible.. Keep swimming around the remaining corners; if the exit seems elusive, angle Tidus down toward the bottom of the screen. After a LOT of cutscenes, we’ll have control again.

Highbridge

So now it’s time to head back down the Highbridge to help Kimahri, but first, save your game so you don’t have to go through all that again.

The EnemyBevelle defender encountered with either a rifle or flamethrower during the five-battle temple approach., YKT-63s, and YAT-99s from the Bevelle assault return as random encounters. Kimahri is unavailable for what should be obvious reasons. Don’t leave MachinaBevelle combat machina whose Thrust Kick can eject a character, especially dangerous when it is the final enemy. as the last enemy, and remember that the machina are weak to Fire and Water. MerchantTraveling merchant whose later prices depend on the party's cumulative early donations. is available near the southern end if you need supplies.

This is the first convenient place to farm ItemRestores 2,000 HP to every active party member.. Sixty let you teach one Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. Wht MagicRestores a large amount of HP to one target and damages targets with Zombie.. Remember, only AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. and AeonNon-elemental aeon acquired in Bevelle whose attacks can exceed the normal 9,999 damage limit without a powered Celestial Weapon. really need that just now; AeonYuna's second aeon, a Fire-elemental summon obtained at Kilika Temple that absorbs Fire damage., AeonLightning-aligned aeon acquired at Djose Temple; it absorbs Lightning and can cast Thundara when first obtained., and AeonIce-aligned aeon acquired during the Macalania Temple battle; she absorbs Ice and can heal herself with Ice magic. can heal themselves by casting their own element on themselves. You do not need to stop for all sixty, but it is an option.

Even if you don’t farm them, I recommend a fully loaded set of Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle.. Fight near the southern Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship., summon one, use Boost until the gauge fills, and dismiss it. Repeat until everyone is charged. At the northern end, save again and equip as much Equipment AbilityRaises the wearer's resistance to Petrification. or Equipment AbilityPrevents Petrification unless the incoming effect ignores immunity. as you can. Raw power is more important than elemental weapon tricks in the battle ahead.

Seymour Natus and Mortibody

Boss PartSeymour Natus's support target, which revives by draining HP from Seymour when destroyed. is less a second boss than an extremely clingy life-support system. If you destroy it, it revives by draining HP from BossGuado maester fought at Macalania Temple in a three-phase battle involving two Guado Guardians and Anima.: first 4,000, then 3,000, 2,000, and finally 1,000 on every later revival. That works, but directly damaging BossGuado maester fought at Macalania Temple in a three-phase battle involving two Guado Guardians and Anima. is faster. Above 24,000 HP they use elemental magic; from 24,000 through 12,001, BossGuado maester fought at Macalania Temple in a three-phase battle involving two Guado Guardians and Anima. casts Enemy AbilitySeymour Natus's mid-fight spell, which attempts to Petrify one party member. while Boss PartSeymour Natus's support target, which revives by draining HP from Seymour when destroyed. uses Enemy AbilityMortibody's mid-fight attack, which removes a Petrified target's battle slot by shattering it., which can shatter a Petrified character right out of the battle. Below 12,000, Boss PartSeymour Natus's support target, which revives by draining HP from Seymour when destroyed. heals BossGuado maester fought at Macalania Temple in a three-phase battle involving two Guado Guardians and Anima. with Wht MagicRestores a moderate amount of HP to one target and damages targets with Zombie. while BossGuado maester fought at Macalania Temple in a three-phase battle involving two Guado Guardians and Anima. starts throwing Blk MagicDeals very heavy non-elemental magic damage to one enemy. around. This is why the Equipment AbilityPrevents Petrification unless the incoming effect ignores immunity. recommendation is not decorative.

Steal some ItemUse item that fully restores one target's HP and grants all four Nul-element statuses; despite the menu text, it is single-target. from BossGuado maester fought at Macalania Temple in a three-phase battle involving two Guado Guardians and Anima.. When the battle first started for me, I had Tidus Haste Yuna. Then I called AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast., AeonYuna's second aeon, a Fire-elemental summon obtained at Kilika Temple that absorbs Fire damage., and AeonNon-elemental aeon acquired in Bevelle whose attacks can exceed the normal 9,999 damage limit without a powered Celestial Weapon., and had each use its Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode.. Since the first two were doing 9,999 and AeonNon-elemental aeon acquired in Bevelle whose attacks can exceed the normal 9,999 damage limit without a powered Celestial Weapon. did somewhere between 11K and 30K, that finished him fairly quickly. BossGuado maester fought at Macalania Temple in a three-phase battle involving two Guado Guardians and Anima. immediately uses Enemy AbilitySeymour Natus's immediate response to a summoned aeon, removing that aeon from battle after its available action. on an Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. if he gets a turn, but each Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. only needs its one big shot. Oh, and I got four Sphere GridSphere used to open a Lv. 2 locked node on the Sphere Grid.. Battle SystemFinishing an enemy with at least its required final-hit damage threshold, commonly improving AP or item rewards., you know?

Finding Yuna

After more cutscenes, you have control again. Talk to people there, then head down one screen. Hmm. Where can Yuna be? Let’s see. Can I go right? Nope. How about left? Hmm, some weirdos chase me off the screen, so let’s try going down, shall we? Well, there’s Kimahri! Let’s talk to him. Whee! Isn’t Kimahri a load of fun to talk to?!?

OK! Head left to find Yuna. She’s in the water. I wonder why? Oh yeah, for the fan service, er, I mean cutscene. You can tell the cutscene from the rest easily. It’s the one where the lighting changes about the same time she starts crying.

Anyway, after Tidus’s best effort at romance, we’ll be able to do something useful again.

Regroup

So anyhow, now they walk hand in hand back to camp. Now, what just happened between Rikku and Tidus…? Oh, right. She won’t quit. Why is she telling them what their names are? Thankfully, Auron cuts her off before another mushiness scene starts. Sorry. I guess that whole scene was just a little unbelievable for me…

When everyone wakes up, there is a chest in the clearing, barely visible to the left. Go north into that screen and open it for a EquipmentYuna armor name used for the status-ward rings found in Via Purifico and at the campsite before the Calm Lands. with Equipment AbilityRaises the wearer's resistance to Silence. and Equipment AbilityRaises the wearer's resistance to Confusion.. Return and follow the party east toward the Calm Lands. If you want your characters to be all that they can be in this game, you’ll be coming back here many times.
