Final Fantasy X Walkthrough

Besaid and S.S. Liki

Besaid (she said)

When Tidus wakes up, swim left to the chest beside the nets for two ItemRemoves Poison from one character.. Then swim as far right as you can and follow the edge up and left into the small eastern cove. Open the chest there for the Key ItemYuna's crest for the first Nirvana upgrade in the North American English PS2 release.. The crests are used to make cool weapons later. FIND THEM ALL! This particular one belongs to Yuna’s Celestial Weapon.

Now swim over and talk to the guys on the beach. Welcome to Besaid.

After Wakka introduces himself and the Aurochs, talk to the team repeatedly before following him. Keepa gives 200 Gil after two conversations, Botta gives two ItemRestores 200 HP to one character., Jassu gives three ItemRestores 200 HP to one character., and Datto gives a ItemRestores 1,000 HP to one character. after four conversations. Letty gives you the priceless gift of conversation.

When Wakka leaves, follow him, touch the Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship., and head inland. He will eventually push Tidus into the water. Great way to start a friendship.

Swim through the valley

You will have a chance to kill more FiendUnderwater fiend near the salvage ship whose drops provide early red spheres and occasional Ability Spheres.. Rather than swimming straight to the destination, use the dive function you learned in the previous section and collect all three underwater chests:

At the end of the river, Tidus joins the Aurochs and tells Wakka they should be playing to win. Or maybe Wakka helps Tidus learn that. Something like that. Follow the remaining path to the village.

Loot Besaid Village politely

When you get to town, take whatever is in the chests. No one seems to care. A chest outside the item shop on the lower-left side contains a ItemRevives one KO'd character with half of their maximum HP.. A hard-to-see path branches behind the buildings on the left; follow it to a ruined hut and open all three chests for 400 Gil, a ItemRestores 1,000 HP to one character., and two ItemRestores 200 HP to one character..

The last building on the left is the Crusaders Lodge. Be sure to pop in and pick up Key ItemOne of 26 volumes that progressively translates the Al Bhed language. from the floor near the counter. The Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship. is in the back, and the terminal can repeat game tutorials if the previous twelve minutes of instruction somehow did not satisfy you.

Head to the temple, look around, speak to the priest beside the stairs, and try going upstairs if you want. When you are finished, leave and find Wakka. His house is the second door on the right when entering the village. Talk to him and take a nap. After another trip down repressed-memory lane, return to the temple and talk to Wakka.

Besaid Cloister of Trials

This section involves picking up spheres from one place and putting them somewhere else. You also touch glyphs. While this may seem monotonous, you’ll be doing it a LOT. I numbered the steps to make this easier on the eyes.

Besaid Cloister of Trials
StepAction
1Examine the writing on the far wall, then touch the glyph that appears on the right wall.
2Go down the stairs and take the Cloister of TrialsReusable Cloister sphere that opens doors, walls, or other temple mechanisms when placed in the matching recess. from the recess at the first landing.
3Put the Cloister of TrialsReusable Cloister sphere that opens doors, walls, or other temple mechanisms when placed in the matching recess. in the door at the bottom, walk through, and remove it from the opened door.
4Continue around the corner and put the Cloister of TrialsReusable Cloister sphere that opens doors, walls, or other temple mechanisms when placed in the matching recess. into the first recess on the left. A small room opens; leave its Cloister of TrialsSpecial Cloister sphere used to reveal a temple's optional treasure and contribute toward a later aeon unlock. there for the moment.
5Continue to the pedestal, touch the symbols on the wall opposite it, and enter the room that opens.
6Take the Cloister of TrialsTemple sphere used to reveal and power the pedestal route through Besaid's Cloister of Trials. and put it into the pedestal.
7Return to the small room, take the Cloister of TrialsSpecial Cloister sphere used to reveal a temple's optional treasure and contribute toward a later aeon unlock., and put it into the recess where the Cloister of TrialsTemple sphere used to reveal and power the pedestal route through Besaid's Cloister of Trials. was.
8Follow the corridor beyond the pedestal to the wall that breaks open and collect the EquipmentYuna weapon from Besaid's Destruction Sphere chest with Magic +5%, Magic +3%, and Sensor..
9Return to the pedestal and push it straight forward onto the shining tile.

Wakka shows up and leads Tidus down to the next level, where you finally meet Yuna. That was her rod you found. Head outside and walk toward the center of the village, then name your new Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle.. For the sake of everyone’s sanity, this guide uses the default name AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast..

After the annoying foreshadow-ish monologue from Tidus and chanting from the team, talk to Yuna. Then talk to Wakka. Walk up and left in Tidus’s dream (he has weird dreams, doesn’t he?) Next you get to spy on Wakka and Lulu. Wee! What a fun game so far, eh? After a token music throwback to the mini choco games, morning arrives.

Leaving Besaid

Wakka gives Tidus the EquipmentTidus's sword from Wakka; it initially carries Strength +5% and three empty slots, then changes with story progression., and the party quietly adds a ItemMenu item that displays Spira's world map. to your inventory. Equip Yuna with the EquipmentYuna weapon from Besaid's Destruction Sphere chest with Magic +5%, Magic +3%, and Sensor. from the Cloister. If you missed Key ItemOne of 26 volumes that progressively translates the Al Bhed language., grab it from the Crusaders Lodge before leaving. (Yes, really - you need to learn this language, so try not to miss the schoolbooks.)

Get Energy Blast now

After the group walks out of the village and you regain control, turn around and go back in. Speak to the item-shop owner in the first tent on the left; you do not need to buy anything. She will mention that her dog found something. Enter the upper-right hut and talk to the dog to obtain “something mangled and slobbery.” AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. learns Aeon OverdriveValefor's stronger second Overdrive, learned from the dog in Besaid before the party leaves the island.. Apparently in Besaid Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. techniques are delivered via canine post.

Fight lessons

Leave the village again and follow the tutorials. Tidus handles quick ground enemies, Wakka handles fliers, Lulu uses the opposing element against flans, and Yuna heals or summons AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. for larger enemies. Pay close attention when the game teaches you to swap characters. From now on, you pretty much ALWAYS want every character to take at least one action when practical. Even passing a turn by defending (Triangle on the original PlayStation 2 controls) qualifies that character for AP from the fight.

Retrace your route to the little shrine and let Yuna pray if you wish, then save and continue toward the boat.

??? (Kimahri)

Don’t waste ItemRestores 200 HP to one character. trying to keep Tidus completely topped off, but do heal if he falls below about 180 HP. Kimahri attacks three times and then uses Jump, which can deal around 100 damage. Use Special AbilityRaises the active party's Strength and reduces physical damage taken; stacks up to five times. a few times, wail on him, and finish with OverdriveTidus's starting Swordplay technique; stopping the moving marker inside the highlighted center before time expires increases its damage. if Tidus reaches Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode..

Continue along the path for more forced fight lessons. Summon AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. against the first FiendLarge flying fiend whose powerful physical attacks are much safer after Wakka inflicts Darkness; the Luca version also counters attacks.; Aeon AbilityValefor attack that damages one target and delays its next turn when the target is vulnerable to delay. can delay its turns, and Aeon OverdriveValefor's starting Overdrive, which damages every enemy. or your new Aeon OverdriveValefor's stronger second Overdrive, learned from the dog in Besaid before the party leaves the island. will make the lesson emphatic. In the later FiendLarge flying fiend whose powerful physical attacks are much safer after Wakka inflicts Darkness; the Luca version also counters attacks. battle, have Wakka use SkillPhysical attack that attempts to inflict Darkness for three turns. and reapply it after Darkness wears off. Rotate everyone through when practical, and don’t forget to use the Character GrowthFFX character-development board where Sphere Levels move a character and spheres activate reached nodes. as you gain Character GrowthMovement resource earned through AP and spent to travel between nodes on the Sphere Grid. from these battles.

Eventually you will reach the beach again. Have you played FF8? Do you recognize the music? ;) I really like how they got that music from the Laguna/Ellone scene to just float through the Besaid theme.

Touch the Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship., then talk to everyone around the dock before boarding. The man in green gives an ItemRestores 100 MP to one character.. Talk to the woman in the maroon skirt twice for three ItemRevives one KO'd character with half of their maximum HP.. The priest gives Yuna a EquipmentYuna armor name used for HP +10% equipment, including the Besaid dock gift and Belgemine's consolation reward on the Mi'ihen Highroad. with HP +10%. The shirtless man gives 400 Gil, and the little boy gives a ItemRemoves most standard status ailments from one character. after two conversations. If someone does not give you anything, talk at least two more times just in case. Don’t forget to equip anything useful you found or received as a present. Hint. Hint.

S.S. Liki: let’s fight Sin

Before advancing the story on deck, take the hard-to-see stairs near the stern down into the ship. You will meet MerchantTraveling merchant whose later prices depend on the party's cumulative early donations.. Lend him money if you want; the total changes his prices later. I recommend 1,001 Gil if you’ve got it. There are more chances to contribute before his prices matter, so this does not need to bankrupt Tidus on the first meeting.

Enter the cabin beside the Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship. and open the chest for a ItemRemoves most standard status ailments from one character.. Kick the suitcase repeatedly to receive one ItemRestores 200 HP to one character. per kick until your inventory reaches 20. It does not give 20 additional ItemRestores 200 HP to one character.; if you already have 12, you can kick out eight. Apparently luggage works differently in Spira.

Go down the ramp beyond MerchantTraveling merchant whose later prices depend on the party's cumulative early donations. and enter the Power Room. Pick up Key ItemOne of 26 volumes that progressively translates the Al Bhed language. from the lower-right corner. If you talk to the woman here, you will be treated to the worst rendition of the chocobo theme you have ever heard. XD Return to the hallway and save.

Back on deck, talk to Wakka, approach Yuna, talk to Wakka again, and then return to Yuna. For optional chatter, climb to the upper deck and find the man who asks, “Can you believe this!?” Answer “What?” and then “Yeah.” Look around as much as you like, but heal Wakka and Tidus before the final conversation. The next two battles happen back-to-back.

Sin’s Fin

Kill two of the three FiendA small creature shed from Sin's body; in the opening battles, flickering wings warn that one is preparing Spines. and leave the last one alone. If all three die, Sin sends replacements; if one remains, the incoming damage is manageable. Always prioritize a FiendA small creature shed from Sin's body; in the opening battles, flickering wings warn that one is preparing Spines. whose wings begin to flicker, because Spines hurts considerably more than its normal attack.

BossThe distant target during Sin's attack on the S.S. Liki; only ranged attacks, magic, Lancet, and Valefor can reach it. is out of melee range. Wakka’s MinigameSpira's underwater team sport and recurring minigame; successful actions earn player EXP, and later prizes include Wakka's Overdrives and Celestial Weapon components., Lulu’s magic, Kimahri’s Special AbilityKimahri ability that drains HP and MP and can teach him specific Ronso Rage techniques from compatible enemies., and AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. can hit it. Rotate everyone through for AP, then let Wakka and Lulu wear down the fin while Yuna heals. If AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. has a charged Aeon OverdriveValefor's stronger second Overdrive, learned from the dog in Besaid before the party leaves the island., it can end the fight with a very satisfying Battle SystemFinishing an enemy with at least its required final-hit damage threshold, commonly improving AP or item rewards.. Farming the endless FiendA small creature shed from Sin's body; in the opening battles, flickering wings warn that one is preparing Spines. is possible, but you just spent an entire submerged section being offered fish as a leveling plan; moving on is entirely respectable.

Before the fin falls, make sure Tidus and Wakka have healthy HP. Save Wakka’s Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode. if it fills. There is no healing or Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship. between this fight and the next one.

Sinspawn Echuilles

Wakka should open with SkillPhysical attack that attempts to inflict Darkness for three turns. and use it again after Darkness wears off. BossUnderwater Sinspawn fought by Tidus and Wakka beneath the S.S. Liki; Darkness helps against Drain Touch, but not Blender. uses Drain Touch twice, then Blender against both characters, and repeats that pattern. Darkness makes Drain Touch miss more often, but it does nothing to Blender, so keep both characters above about 200 HP. I tend to try to avoid using ItemRestores 100 MP to one character. if possible; they are expensive! But if it’s the difference between winning and Game Over, it’s worth the trade off.

Have Tidus use Special AbilityRaises the active party's Strength and reduces physical damage taken; stacks up to five times., then keep both characters focused on BossUnderwater Sinspawn fought by Tidus and Wakka beneath the S.S. Liki; Darkness helps against Drain Touch, but not Blender.. Ignore the FiendA small creature shed from Sin's body; in the opening battles, flickering wings warn that one is preparing Spines.; they just keep coming. Use ItemRestores 200 HP to one character. when necessary and fire every Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode. you saved. With SkillPhysical attack that attempts to inflict Darkness for three turns. controlling Drain Touch, you should kill the Sinspawn before either character is knocked out.

But you did save not too long ago. You did save, didn’t you?!?

After the battle and cutscenes, Tidus wakes up in Kilika.
