Final Fantasy X Walkthrough
Operation Mi’ihen and Djose Highroad
Mushroom Rock
After more “tell-you-what-the-heck-is-going-on” scenes, you’ll be ready to fight again. Before taking the road off to your left, backtrack a little and talk to the Crusaders. The man in the maroon-and-yellow shirt gives Lulu a EquipmentLulu armor given by a Crusader at the Mushroom Rock entrance, carrying HP +20% and one empty slot. with HP +20%, the blue-clad Crusader gives a ItemRemoves most standard status ailments from one character., the man in green pants gives an ItemRestores 100 MP to one character., the running Crusader gives two ItemRevives one KO'd character with half of their maximum HP., and the female Crusader gives a ItemRestores 1,000 HP to one character.. You can’t take the direct road to Djose, so follow the little red arrows toward the valley and save.
The first stretch uses the same Bomb, FiendHard-hitting horned fiend on the Mi'ihen Highroad that drops early Ability Spheres and teaches Kimahri Fire Breath through Lancet., FiendAgile flying eye fiend best handled by Wakka's ranged and accurate attacks., FiendQuick lizard-type fiend on the Mi'ihen Oldroad; Tidus's accuracy and Ice damage work well against it., FiendLightning-aligned flan on the Mi'ihen Oldroad that absorbs Lightning and is weak to Water., and FiendDragon-type fiend used for Auron's solo battle immediately after the Luca tournament final. encounters as the Mi’ihen Oldroad. The valley beyond the lift brings in the actual Mushroom Rock crowd.
If Kimahri has crossed into Rikku’s grid, there are useful things to steal here: ItemUse item that damages all enemies and inflicts Silence for eight turns unless they are immune. from FiendMushroom fiend at Mushroom Rock and Djose that can counter surviving attacks with Pollen, inflicting Sleep on the active party., ItemUse item that deals minor Fire damage to one enemy. from FiendFire-aligned elemental fiend at Mushroom Rock that absorbs Fire and is weak to Ice., ItemRemoves Petrification from one character. from FiendQuick lizard-type fiend found at Mushroom Rock and southern Djose Highroad; Tidus and Ice damage work well against it., ItemUse item that deals minor Lightning damage to one enemy. from FiendFlying imp-type fiend found at Mushroom Rock and Djose Highroad; Wakka's ranged attack and Water damage work well against it., ItemUse item that damages all enemies and inflicts Darkness for eight turns unless they are immune. from FiendLarge flying fiend whose powerful physical attacks are much safer after Wakka inflicts Darkness; the Luca version also counters attacks., and ItemUse item that inflicts Slow on all enemies unless they are immune. from FiendArmored dragon-type fiend at Mushroom Rock and southern Djose Highroad; Piercing attacks and Fire damage work well against it.. I once stole five ItemUse item that damages all enemies and inflicts Darkness for eight turns unless they are immune.. Whee. These are probably not worth spending several hours leveling Kimahri just to reach Special AbilityAttempts to take a fiend's common or rare steal item; repeated attempts become less likely to succeed., but they’re a nice return if he already knows it.
Take the first lift. Talk to the female Crusader for a ItemRestores 1,000 HP to one character., then follow the winding ledges. Lucil moves away from a branch leading to a chest with 1,000 Gil; the nearby Crusader gives you ten ItemRestores 200 HP to one character.. Continue west and north for a chest containing a ItemRemoves most standard status ailments from one character.. When you meet Shelinda, talk to her three times. After that she can restore party and Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. HP/MP whenever you ask, which is much cheaper than wasting ItemRestores 200 HP to one character. if you want to level here.
Continue north. A chest behind the arch-like rock formation contains a ItemRestores 1,000 HP to one character.. Don’t worry about the lower area and its Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship.; you can’t reach all of that yet. The later Jecht Sphere route and Airship Secrets pages bring you back for the things the game is currently dangling below you.
Ride the lift to the Precipice and talk to the nearest Crusader for an ItemRestores 9,999 HP to one character.. Follow the path until a western branch appears on the map, take its lift down, and open the chest for a EquipmentKimahri armor found on the Mushroom Rock Precipice, carrying Dark Ward and Berserk Ward. with Equipment AbilityRaises the wearer's resistance to Darkness. and Equipment AbilityRaises the wearer's resistance to Berserk but does not guarantee immunity.. Return to the main ledge. The wandering Crusader gives you 400 Gil, and the narrow path extending south ends at Key ItemOne of 26 volumes that progressively translates the Al Bhed language.. If you’ve picked up all ten volumes so far, Tidus should now be an Al Bhed Maynhan. Whatever that means.
Back at the main path, the man in yellow near the large lift gives you a ItemRestores 2,000 HP to every active party member.. Before riding up, go south and talk to Luzzu. Then save, charge AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. and AeonYuna's second aeon, a Fire-elemental summon obtained at Kilika Temple that absorbs Fire damage. Overdrives if you want them available for the bosses, and take the big lift.
Base Camp
Follow the red arrow to the Command Center and use the Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship. outside. MerchantTraveling merchant whose later prices depend on the party's cumulative early donations. is nearby with expensive but unusually good equipment. I spent everything I had on two weapons: Avenger, Tidus’s weapon with Equipment AbilityCounters damage from a physical attack with a basic physical attack when possible., and EquipmentAuron weapon sold by O'aka at Operation Mi'ihen, carrying Initiative and Piercing., Auron’s weapon with Initiative and Piercing. You don’t need either to win, but Initiative on Auron is a fine way to start a difficult fight with the adult already in the room.
Inside the Command Center, talk to anybody except the southeastern guard who asks whether you’re ready. Open the chest next to Lulu for a ItemRestores 2,000 HP to every active party member., then find the partly hidden chest behind the spear rack near Yuna for a EquipmentAuron armor found behind the Command Center's spear rack, carrying HP +5% and Berserk Ward. with HP +5% and Equipment AbilityRaises the wearer's resistance to Berserk but does not guarantee immunity..
Gatta and Luzzu: this dialogue changes who survives
Talking to Gatta twice and encouraging him to fight on the front lines swaps the two Crusaders’ assignments: Gatta dies during the operation and Luzzu survives. If you leave the decision alone, Luzzu dies and Gatta survives. The story continues either way, but later dialogue and which Crusader appears at Djose change.
Set your equipment, rotate in whoever needs a better defensive piece, and decide how much Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. power you want to save for the second battle. The first BossMultipart Operation Mi'ihen boss whose regenerating arms defend the body while its separate head prepares Venom. is much harder, so don’t lose the first fight merely to arrive at the easy one with beautiful full Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode. gauges. When you’re ready, save again and talk to the southeastern guard. The save portion of that sentence is pretty crucial. If you haven’t played this game before, it’s kinda likely you’ll get worked.
Seeing Double
There are actually four targets here: BossMultipart Operation Mi'ihen boss whose regenerating arms defend the body while its separate head prepares Venom. body, its head, and two arms. The arms protect the body, the head prepares Boss AbilitySinspawn Gui's head attack that deals heavy non-elemental magic damage and inflicts Poison; damaging the twitching head interrupts it., and killing only the body ends the battle. This is a long enough fight that everyone should take at least one action for AP before the finishing blow.
Sinspawn Gui: First Battle
When the battle begins, swap Tidus in and use Haste on Lulu, Wakka, and whoever else is doing most of your damage. Remember, everyone needs to participate to get experience. Once Tidus has done his part, swap Yuna in to heal and use Pray whenever a full Cure isn’t necessary.
The head uses Thunder, then starts moving suspiciously. If nobody damages it before its next turn, it uses Venom for heavy damage and Poison. SkillPhysical attack that attempts to inflict Darkness for three turns., SkillPhysical attack that attempts to inflict Sleep for three turns., and SkillPhysical attack that attempts to inflict Silence for three turns. won’t shut the head down. Hit it with Wakka’s MinigameSpira's underwater team sport and recurring minigame; successful actions earn player EXP, and later prizes include Wakka's Overdrives and Celestial Weapon components., Lulu’s magic, or Kimahri’s Special AbilityKimahri ability that drains HP and MP and can teach him specific Ronso Rage techniques from compatible enemies. whenever it twitches; better yet, kill it first. If Lulu has Blk MagicDeals moderate Water-elemental magic damage to one enemy., it works nicely, although the head has no actual elemental weakness.
Next, go after one arm, then the other. Auron and Kimahri’s Piercing weapons work, and Lulu’s magic ignores the arms’ protection. Once both arms are gone, the body loses its defensive shield. Bring Tidus back for Cheer and Haste, use SkillPhysical attack that attempts to halve the target's Strength. on the body, and unload until the arms regenerate three or four body turns later. Then do it again. Here’s the total suck part: he respawns the arms.
I got everyone involved, then used Grand Summon to bring in AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast.. Aeon AbilityValefor attack that damages one target and delays its next turn when the target is vulnerable to delay. won’t delay BossMultipart Operation Mi'ihen boss whose regenerating arms defend the body while its separate head prepares Venom., but an Aeon OverdriveValefor's starting Overdrive, which damages every enemy. did more than 3,000 damage. Waiting until the body was below that let me take the Battle SystemFinishing an enemy with at least its required final-hit damage threshold, commonly improving AP or item rewards. without giving BossMultipart Operation Mi'ihen boss whose regenerating arms defend the body while its separate head prepares Venom. time to kill AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast.. If you want the second battle to be trivial, save Yuna and the Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. Overdrives; if you want to survive this one, use them now. However you decide to fight this, be aware: you’ll have to fight him again.
Sinspawn Gui: Second Battle
After the cutscene, you get another crack at BossMultipart Operation Mi'ihen boss whose regenerating arms defend the body while its separate head prepares Venom.. This time you’re using BossGuado maester fought at Macalania Temple in a three-phase battle involving two Guado Guardians and Anima., Auron, and Yuna, and you cannot swap anybody out. Pick up your jaw and put BossGuado maester fought at Macalania Temple in a three-phase battle involving two Guado Guardians and Anima. to work: one of his -ara spells should remove the 1,000-HP head, and his magic cuts straight through the arms’ protection. Have Auron take on an arm and then the body while Yuna keeps everyone alive.
The body has only 6,000 HP this time, so it is much easier. By charging the Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. in advance, I made this battle almost comical. I never even used AeonYuna's second aeon, a Fire-elemental summon obtained at Kilika Temple that absorbs Fire damage.. Once only the body remained, I used my saved Grand Summon to bring AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. back, whittled BossMultipart Operation Mi'ihen boss whose regenerating arms defend the body while its separate head prepares Venom. down, and overkilled him with another Aeon OverdriveValefor's starting Overdrive, which damages every enemy..
Given the number of Overkills, I was a little disappointed in how few levels I really gained. Oh well. ;) I managed to get six Sphere GridSphere used to open a Lv. 1 locked node on the Sphere Grid. and a Dreamy Cait Sith with Equipment AbilityGives physical attacks a strong chance to inflict Sleep; Sinspawn Gui's second body can drop a weapon carrying it.. I’ve also received an Alert Shield and a useless Katana on other runs, so don’t plan around the equipment name; the useful part is the Equipment AbilityGives physical attacks a strong chance to inflict Sleep; Sinspawn Gui's second body can drop a weapon carrying it. or Equipment AbilityPrevents Sleep unless the incoming effect ignores immunity. ability. That’s cool. :D
Beaches, Basilisks, and You
When you regain control on the beach, walk Tidus around until you find and talk to whichever of Gatta or Luzzu survived. After more scenes, you’ll wake up on another stretch of beach. Follow the shore west, open the chest behind where Lulu moves for a ItemRestores 1,000 HP to one character., and talk to Auron last when you’re ready to continue. Save, then head up the slope and rejoin the group. Notice MerchantTraveling merchant whose later prices depend on the party's cumulative early donations. has ItemRemoves Petrification from one character. for sale now? That’s a NOT-so-subtle hint.
You cannot backtrack through the operation site until after Djose Temple, so continue onto the Djose Highroad.
Talk to the people along the road. The man in tan pants and a maroon shirt gives Yuna a EquipmentYuna armor given by a traveler on Djose Highroad, carrying Stoneproof and one empty slot. with Equipment AbilityPrevents Petrification unless the incoming effect ignores immunity.. The man in blue gives Tidus a EquipmentTidus weapon given by a traveler on Djose Highroad, carrying Strength +3% and three empty slots. with Equipment AbilityRaises the equipped character's Strength statistic by 3%. if you talk to him twice. A priest gives you a ItemRestores 1,000 HP to one character., the man in a green shirt gives an ItemRestores 100 MP to one character., and the soldier in green pants farther north gives a ItemRestores 2,000 HP to every active party member..
Follow the left side near the start to find a chest in an alcove containing two ItemRevives one KO'd character with half of their maximum HP.. A little farther along, Key ItemOne of 26 volumes that progressively translates the Al Bhed language. is on the ground behind a pillar along the southeast side of the road. Just beyond it, check the odd recess in the northern cliff for a EquipmentLulu armor hidden in a Djose Highroad cliff recess, carrying Dark Ward and one empty slot. with Equipment AbilityRaises the wearer's resistance to Darkness..
If FiendDjose Highroad fiend whose Stone Gaze inflicts Petrification; Kimahri can learn Stone Breath from it through Lancet. are giving you trouble, equip the EquipmentYuna armor given by a traveler on Djose Highroad, carrying Stoneproof and one empty slot. on Yuna or summon AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast.. Remember, a character who is still petrified when the battle ends earns no AP. Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode. can produce four of those oh-so-hard-to-find Ability Spheres.
When you reach the crossroads, follow the road everyone else took toward Djose Temple.
