Final Fantasy X Walkthrough
Kilika and S.S. Winno
Kilika
When you have beaten Sin, you wind up in Kilika. Save your game on the dock and head toward what’s left of the town. Head left and watch the REALLY cool cutscene. Watch the sending, then more chocobo sleepy-time music.
When Tidus wakes the next morning, talk to the kid whose sole goal in life is aspiring to become a piece of athletic equipment: “I wanna be a blitzball when I grow up!” Leave the inn and head left. In the first building you come to, open the chest for three ItemRestores 200 HP to one character..
A little farther left, you can save a little girl from a collapsing house. Run toward her and use the action button before the building comes down. Now head right, past the inn. On the next screen, go into the pub (the first building you come to). Key ItemOne of 26 volumes that progressively translates the Al Bhed language. is on the counter. You should now be rank Al Bhed Pakehhan. Talk to the girl at the counter, then open the chest for an ItemRestores 100 MP to one character., which is your reward for rescuing her from the minor inconvenience of a collapsing building.
Leave the pub and head right. Just below it is a shop selling weapons with Equipment AbilityDisplays basic enemy HP, elemental, and Scan-style information while the equipped character is active. and armor with HP +5%. Buy anything that fills a useful gap, but Wakka is about to find a better weapon for free. Follow the road around to the right and talk to Wakka. Then head back the other way and take the dock path all the way to shore.
Valefor, I choose YOU!
Save your game. Remember, saving also restores HP and MP. Head into Kilika Woods and enjoy the Ico-reminiscent music. This is a good place to level up a little, and there is treasure scattered around the forest.
Your first Ragora encounter is another tutorial. Have Kimahri use Special AbilityKimahri ability that drains HP and MP and can teach him specific Ronso Rage techniques from compatible enemies. to learn Ronso RageKimahri Overdrive learned by using Lancet on a Ragora in Kilika Woods.. The fiends here otherwise follow the lessons you’ve already learned: Lulu’s Fire works well on Ragora, Wakka handles Killer Bees, and Yellow Elements are weak to Water.
Clear the forest
From the Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship., take the first road east and open the chest at the end for two Sphere GridActivates an MP, Magic, or Magic Defense node that a character has reached.. Equip it while wandering the forest; Killer Bees are weak to Ice, and Sensor is useful. Just remember that the next boss’s tentacles resist Ice, so switch it out before that battle.
Continue around the western path. Talk to the first female Crusader twice for a ItemRemoves most standard status ailments from one character.. Farther north, talk to the Crusader at the next junction for a ItemRestores 1,000 HP to one character., then take the central path north to a chest containing a Sphere GridChanges an empty Sphere Grid node into a Luck +4 node; a Fortune Sphere activates the new node.. You do not have the Sphere GridActivates a Luck node that a character has reached on the Sphere Grid. needed to activate a new Luck node yet, so hang on to it.
The giant plant in the middle is optional, but I recommend fighting it now. Talk to Luzzu twice before the battle for four ItemRemoves Poison from one character.. If you want another small freebie first, approach BossOptional Kilika Woods boss that is weak to Fire, inflicts Poison, and counters a physical wake-up with Earthquake. from the west and Flee from the first fight; the nearby Crusader gives you three ItemRevives one KO'd character with half of their maximum HP.. Read the prep notes below, then go back and whack the massive weed for real.
Boss Fight Prep
Coming into a Boss Fight with your folks already having or being near an Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode. is almost always a good idea. Just fight some random encounters to build them up.
Lord Ochu
Swap Yuna in when you need to heal or cure Poison, and have Tidus use Special AbilityRaises the active party's Strength and reduces physical damage taken; stacks up to five times. to raise the party’s strength and defense. Wakka’s SkillPhysical attack that attempts to inflict Silence for three turns. can prevent Water, although SkillPhysical attack that attempts to inflict Darkness for three turns. will not help here. After the fight, talk to Luzzu for an ItemFully restores one character's HP and MP.. The female Crusader west of where BossOptional Kilika Woods boss that is weak to Fire, inflicts Poison, and counters a physical wake-up with Earthquake. stood also gives Wakka a EquipmentWakka armor awarded by a Kilika Woods Crusader after Lord Ochu is defeated; it carries SOS NulBlaze. with Equipment AbilityKeeps NulBlaze active on the wearer while that character is at critical HP.. Go back to the entrance and save.
See the blue letters on the ruins to the left of the main road? They say:
t e p s w r s V C O I U
At least they would if you knew Al Bhed. It is the Kilika half of a puzzle that eventually reveals one of the Airship Secrets. You do not need to solve it now.
Head for the temple
To reach the next area, return to the northern junction where you collected the ItemRestores 1,000 HP to one character., head east, then turn north at the end of that branch. See the prep notes below, then cross the bridge and climb the stairs. After the cutscene and the team’s little race toward the temple, use the Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship.. You wouldn’t want to lose your newfound levels, would you? ;) More importantly, you are about to hit a major battle.
Boss Fight Prep
On the Pilgrimage Road, use random battles to charge AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode.. Select Aeon CommandAeon command that makes the summon defend while increasing the Overdrive gained from incoming damage. from the Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle. second command menu to charge faster, but do not let AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. get KO’d. If you boost Wakka as well, being able to hit Fire on his OverdriveWakka's starting Slots technique; matching three elemental symbols attacks all enemies with that element. will be helpful. If Wakka has the EquipmentWakka weapon name used for several fixed finds: Icestrike and Sensor in Kilika Woods, Lightningstrike and Sensor on the Mi'ihen Oldroad, or Sensor alone from the Crusader donation. equipped, swap it for a Fire-elemental or non-elemental weapon (just nothing with Ice!)
Sinspawn Geneaux
There are three targets here: BossArmored Sinspawn on the Kilika Pilgrimage Road whose two tentacles intercept magic aimed at its body. and two Boss PartOne of two Sinspawn Geneaux appendages that absorb magic aimed at the boss until both are defeated.. Use Tidus, Kimahri, and Wakka to kill the tentacles physically; they have high magic defense and will absorb any magic aimed at BossArmored Sinspawn on the Kilika Pilgrimage Road whose two tentacles intercept magic aimed at its body. while they are alive.
BossArmored Sinspawn on the Kilika Pilgrimage Road whose two tentacles intercept magic aimed at its body. starts inside its armored shell. Kimahri’s Piercing weapon can deal normal damage, but Tidus and Wakka will barely scratch it until it opens. Once both tentacles are dead, Lulu’s Fire can reach the body. When BossArmored Sinspawn on the Kilika Pilgrimage Road whose two tentacles intercept magic aimed at its body. falls below 2,400 HP, it breaks out of the shell and regular weapons work normally. Yuna should heal and use Wht MagicMakes each active party member nullify one incoming Water-elemental hit. if she has it; the exposed boss cycles through Venom, Water, and the all-party Staccato attack.
If AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode. is charged, Aeon OverdriveValefor's starting Overdrive, which damages every enemy. can wipe out the tentacles and heavily damage BossArmored Sinspawn on the Kilika Pilgrimage Road whose two tentacles intercept magic aimed at its body.. I was able to get 2,000+ damage out of it. When the body is exposed and close to 900 HP, bring AeonYuna's first aeon, a flying non-elemental summon whose starting Overdrive is Energy Ray and whose second is Energy Blast. back, use Aeon AbilityValefor attack that damages one target and delays its next turn when the target is vulnerable to delay. to hold the guy at bay, and fire the Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode. for an Battle SystemFinishing an enemy with at least its required final-hit damage threshold, commonly improving AP or item rewards..
After the battle, head up the stairs. You learn a great deal about what kind of person Lulu is. If I had to sum her up in one word, well, it probably wouldn’t be repeatable in mixed company. ;)
Kilika Temple
So anyway… talk to the Luca Goers, enter the temple, and save your game. Talk to Wakka and pray at the statue, then watch the cutscene. Follow Yuna’s group downstairs. When everyone else leaves, wait for the elevator to return and try to board it. Dona and Barthello will help Tidus reconsider the “guardians only” policy.
Kilika Cloister of Trials
Hey guess what? You’re going to do another one of these sphere puzzles!
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Take the Cloister of TrialsTemple sphere used to burn away barriers and operate the pedestal route through Kilika's Cloister of Trials. from the burning pedestal and put it into the recess beside the door ahead. |
| 2 | Remove the sphere after it burns the door away, walk through, and put it into the center recess on the far wall to burn a glyph into it. |
| 3 | Remove the Cloister of TrialsTemple sphere used to burn away barriers and operate the pedestal route through Kilika's Cloister of Trials. and put it into either side-wall recess, then touch the glyph on the center wall. |
| 4 | Take the Cloister of TrialsReusable Cloister sphere that opens doors, walls, or other temple mechanisms when placed in the matching recess. from the newly revealed pedestal and put it into the empty side-wall recess. |
| 5 | Enter the next room and step on the shining tile to bring the pedestal to you. |
| 6 | Take the Cloister of TrialsTemple sphere used to burn away barriers and operate the pedestal route through Kilika's Cloister of Trials. from the right wall, put it into the pedestal, and push the pedestal onto the shining tile in the upper-right corner. The platform drops away. |
| 7 | Return to the previous room, take the Cloister of TrialsReusable Cloister sphere that opens doors, walls, or other temple mechanisms when placed in the matching recess., and put it into the recess where you found that last Cloister of TrialsTemple sphere used to burn away barriers and operate the pedestal route through Kilika's Cloister of Trials.. The fire goes away. Er, the fire IN the room goes away, and a small room opens. |
| 8 | Ignore the small room for a moment. Go down the stairs, take the Cloister of TrialsTemple sphere used to burn away barriers and operate the pedestal route through Kilika's Cloister of Trials. from the right wall, and put it into the recess beside the exit door to burn it away. |
| 9 | Return to the small room and take the Cloister of TrialsSpecial Cloister sphere used to reveal a temple's optional treasure and contribute toward a later aeon unlock.. |

| 12 | Remove the Cloister of TrialsTemple sphere used to burn away barriers and operate the pedestal route through Kilika's Cloister of Trials. from the exit and go through. |
Head up and talk to Wakka, Lulu, and everyone else. Try to leave, and Yuna will emerge. Name AeonYuna's second aeon, a Fire-elemental summon obtained at Kilika Temple that absorbs Fire damage. (really, the fire Battle SystemA summoned ally that replaces the active party until it is dismissed, defeated, or wins the battle.; who would have thought?) After the flashback, leave the temple and retrace your route through the woods. Save at the entrance to the docks, then board the boat headed for Luca.
Learn the Jecht Shot
Back on the boat, when you first wake up, do not head straight for the deck and inspect the MinigameSpira's underwater team sport and recurring minigame; successful actions earn player EXP, and later prizes include Wakka's Overdrives and Celestial Weapon components.. Just behind the three guys to Tidus’s left is a trunk. Open it for a ItemRestores 1,000 HP to one character., then go through the door on the right.
This is your second chance to lend money to MerchantTraveling merchant whose later prices depend on the party's cumulative early donations. (you’ll have a total of four). If over the course of those 4 meetings you lend him over 10k (10,001 is fine), you’ll get a substantial discount later on. Since these are cumulative, contribute toward the total you want, but don’t worry about selling your good loot to do it. Save your game, then go up to the deck.
Enter the bridge near the stairs and pick up Key ItemOne of 26 volumes that progressively translates the Al Bhed language. from the floor behind the person steering the ship. Go back outside and climb the stairs to eavesdrop on Wakka and Lulu. You can climb up again for more of their conversation. When you are done spying, head to the bow and examine the MinigameSpira's underwater team sport and recurring minigame; successful actions earn player EXP, and later prizes include Wakka's Overdrives and Celestial Weapon components..
Follow the practice instructions for the Blitzball TechniqueTidus technique learned from the S.S. Winno challenge; it knocks away up to two defenders before the shot reaches the goal.. When Jecht’s words appear, press the matching direction and the confirm button together. That’s Up + Cross on the original PlayStation 2 controls for text at the top, Down + Cross for text at the bottom, and so on. Clear at least eleven prompts before time runs out.
If Tidus spins, kicks the ball away, and leaves Wakka and the rest impressed, you did it right and learned the Blitzball TechniqueTidus technique learned from the S.S. Winno challenge; it knocks away up to two defenders before the shot reaches the goal.. If the ball hits Tidus instead, reload and try again. Keep at it. If you want to actually PLAY the MinigameSpira's underwater team sport and recurring minigame; successful actions earn player EXP, and later prizes include Wakka's Overdrives and Celestial Weapon components. game in Luca, learning this now is VERY useful.
Talk to Yuna to finish the sequence. After a bit of sleep, save your game. Welcome to Luca…
