Final Fantasy X Walkthrough

Submerged Ruins

When you wake up, you’ll be in the water. You can now access your menu. It is worth your while to explore this area (the water, not the menu.)

Search the flooded courtyard

Swim up and to the left to find an Key ItemImports Al Bhed Primer progress from another compatible save file.. You can use this sphere to import Al Bhed progress if you have played the game before, or if you have access to someone else’s compatible memory card. If you’re a cryptography wonk, Al Bhed is a simple substitution cipher. For the rest of you, it is a language made from swapped letters: when you see one letter, replace it with another. The Al Bhed Primer checklist will handle the details as we find them.

Collect the two ItemRestores 200 HP to one character. south of the Compilation Sphere. Get back in the water and swim to the right-hand side for 200 Gil and an Al Bhed plaque; you can read it only if your imported dictionary knows enough of the language.

That is all around the starting courtyard. Swim north from where Tidus woke up and pass through the arch, then touch the Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship.. Walk along the path and take the left fork for a ItemRestores 1,000 HP to one character.. Return to the main path and continue until Tidus drops into the water. Remember, you have gills in this game; you can breathe underwater.

Swim toward the light and visible treasure chest ahead. EnemyAquatic fiend family encountered in Spira's submerged areas; the Via Purifico form is weak to Lightning. attack on the way. Kill as many as you can before the encounter becomes somewhat larger.

Geosgaeno

When only one EnemyAquatic fiend family encountered in Spira's submerged areas; the Via Purifico form is weak to Lightning. remains, Geosgaeno eats it and turns its attention to Tidus. Hit him a few times and don’t bother healing. His attacks remove half of your current HP, so the increasingly tiny numbers look more dangerous than they are. After the third hit, Tidus runs off with his tail between his legs.

Find a way to make fire

Follow the short hallway when Tidus wakes up and enter the room with a campfire in the center. Watch him complain that he needs a fire. Get used to him complaining; his neediness knows no bounds. :D

Use the minimap like a clock while you search the room:

Return to the campfire room, save, and examine the campfire. Tidus can now start it with the Flint and bouquet. After a short walk down memory lane, Klikk attacks.

Klikk and the mystery girl

Wail on Klikk until the doors blow open; don’t bother using ItemRestores 200 HP to one character. before that unless Tidus is genuinely in trouble. A mystery girl joins the battle carrying two ItemUse item that deals physical damage to all enemies.. Toss them at Klikk. You may need to use a ItemRestores 200 HP to one character. on Tidus once or twice; don’t be afraid to use her supplies if you need them.

After the battle, the Al Bhed think Tidus is a fiend in human disguise and want to kill him. The mystery girl tells them not to kill you, apologizes to you, and hits you. LOL.

Workin’ for a livin’

When Tidus wakes up, he will be forced to work for his keep. First, touch the Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship. toward the top of the deck. Pick up Key ItemOne of 26 volumes that progressively translates the Al Bhed language. on the right. Congratulations, you are now Al Bhed Hujela. Whee.

Talk to the man on the left for three ItemRestores 200 HP to one character.. This gift is repeatable: dive from the ship, return to the deck, and he will hand over three more. You can repeat that loop all the way to 99 if you really want to, but the early route does not remotely require it. The man on the right can repeat the tutorial after you have spoken to the girl.

Talk to the girl for the Character GrowthFFX character-development board where Sphere Levels move a character and spheres activate reached nodes. tutorial. Go through the tutorial and PAY ATTENTION! You won’t be able to level up if you don’t. The Sphere Grid and leveling reference has the longer explanation when you want it.

When the tutorial ends, talk to the girl again and dive into the water. Use the displayed descend control - Circle plus the direction of travel on the original PlayStation 2 controls - and follow the chain downward. You do not have to go too far down just yet.

The early Piranha opportunity

FiendUnderwater fiend near the salvage ship whose drops provide early red spheres and occasional Ability Spheres. here drop red spheres and occasionally Ability Spheres. This is basically your first chance to level up, and it is the last convenient source of Ability Spheres before Besaid. Have both characters take at least one action in a battle when you want both to earn AP.

Swim from right to left so you do not drift too far toward the objective. Have the girl Special AbilityAttempts to take a fiend's common or rare steal item; repeated attempts become less likely to succeed. Save while you’re there, collect another three ItemRestores 200 HP to one character. if you want them, and repeat only as long as this remains more useful than boring.

Before moving on, try to have an Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode. ready for both characters. If you are min-maxing the stop, Overdrive ModeCharges Overdrive when the character is present at the end of a won battle. works well for Tidus and Overdrive ModeCharges Overdrive when the character defeats an enemy. works well for the girl. Her OverdriveCombines two inventory items to produce an Overdrive effect determined by the selected pair. can combine two common red spheres, but do not spend Ability Spheres. They are the whole reason you are hanging around with the fish.

The original two-hour fish plan

I once stayed here until the save file read 2 hours and 14 minutes, while using picture-in-picture to watch something entertaining. I had 15 ItemUse item that deals physical damage to all enemies., 34 ItemRestores 200 HP to one character., and more than 20 Ability Spheres. Tidus had learned Special AbilityRaises the active party's Strength and reduces physical damage taken; stacks up to five times., Special AbilityAttempts to make the entire party escape from a battle; unavailable in encounters that prohibit escape., and Wht MagicGrants Haste, making one target receive turns more frequently. along with several stat nodes; the mystery girl had picked up another 200 HP and 3 Agility. It works, and it makes Tidus reasonably less sucky. It is also entirely optional, and needing a second television program is a pretty good hint that the route can move on sooner.

When you are ready, follow the chain into the deep. Save both characters’ Overdrives, enter the building, and use the Field SystemField sphere used to save and restore the party's HP and MP; later spheres also connect to the airship. inside. From the lower area, you can return to the ship if you need to heal, restock ItemRestores 200 HP to one character., or reconsider how many fish one guide can reasonably ask you to explode.

Raise the airship

Examine the control panel to open the door, then follow the girl. A fixed FiendUnderwater fiend near the salvage ship whose drops provide early red spheres and occasional Ability Spheres. battle blocks the route. Continue to the power source and examine it, then check the prep notes below before trying to leave.

The result is OverdriveA multi-hit Water attack produced by combining two Grenades with Mix; it can defeat Tros outright., and it should end the battle with an Battle SystemFinishing an enemy with at least its required final-hit damage threshold, commonly improving AP or item rewards.. If you did not save it, you can either build another Battle SystemCharacter or aeon special attack resource charged according to the active Overdrive mode. or do the fight the hard way.

If going the hard way, have Tidus use Special AbilityRaises the active party's Strength and reduces physical damage taken; stacks up to five times. if he learned it, then attack while the girl throws or steals ItemUse item that deals physical damage to all enemies.. Use a ItemRestores 200 HP to one character. if either character drops below about 200 HP. If you want the safer battle, use Trigger CommandTros battle command that traps the boss nearby and prevents another retreat, but also suppresses its Power Sphere drop. and have Tidus wail on him while the girl keeps everyone alive. Don’t forget the Overdrives if they fill.

Follow the girl through the hole in the wall. Once outside, dive and swim straight toward the red marker.

Congratulations, you have helped raise the airship. More on THAT later. Quite a bit later, as it turns out.

After the cutscenes, the girl brings Tidus food and finally introduces herself as Rikku. Tidus goes nuts, eventually explains what happened, and learns what became of Zanarkand. Save if you want, talk to Rikku again, and watch for one more chance to save before Sin shows up to end another scene.
