Optional: Eidolon Wall Bonus
OK. This little trick will teach you a little more about Eidolons and Dagger. First step, pull Dagger (and Amarant, apparently) out of your party. I took Zidane, Vivi, Quina and Eiko with me. Head to Madain Sari and walk to Eiko’s Kitchen, where you will meet BossFossil Roo boss. No elemental weakness or absorb. Steal: Ether, Coral Sword, Gladius. Her magic attacks focus on Dagger. (the chick with the axe). Talk to her. Then talk again. She’ll mention seeing some words in a small room. Look in the room downstairs (you’ll see an exclamation mark at the front edge of the screen). There, Zidane will read:
Time moves forward once
Time moves backward once
Nine is the last number
It is also the first.
This writing is supposed to give you all the hints you need to figure this one out. Head to the Eidolon Wall. When you get there, you’ll notice that things are rearranged. You can now travel around the path and read the wall. The hint above is basically telling you to:
- Walk clockwise (right) around the room. When you pass the entrance, you should hear a sound.
- After that, turn around and go back.
- Repeat this process until you have done it nine times.
- You should hear a different sound effect, and your characters will stop moving; a screen will pop-up telling you that HP and MP are restored, Status effects removed.
After this, you’ll be able to read all the Eidolon picture things. You’ll also learn Dagger’s real name and read the message Eiko’s parents left for her about not leaving the village. Look for the entries written on that wall which start “I survived the storm” and “Eiko, my lovely child.”
For kicks, go rename Dagger to her birth name by finding the guy in Daguerreo who wants to see your Namingway Card (if you don’t have one, go win one). In case you are curious, I haven’t noticed that this changes the game in any way, though I think it would be an amazing Easter Egg if this unlocked something.
Optional: Restocked Shops
Black Mage Village now has some cool stuff for sale. If you climb up the ladder in the Black Cat Synth shop you can listen to petty squabbling. See the Disc 4 Shops Section for a list of which shops carry what. While you are in Black Mage Village, if you have Key ItemGet from Treno Auction House. Use with Une's Mirror in Black Mage Village Inn to hear special music. and Key ItemGet from Treno Auction House. Use with Une's Mirror in Black Mage Village Inn to hear special music. you can use them on the phonograph machine at the inn.
Optional: Vile Island Level Up
The island where you met the Friendly MonsterFinal Friendly Monster on Vile Island. Requests 1 Diamond; rewards AP, a Rosetta Ring, and makes Ozma physically reachable. is a great place to level up - if you do it properly. These guys will do a LOT of damage to you in a very short period of time. Set your battle speed slow enough to control what’s going on, and set Blue Magic14 MP Blue Magic. Gives one target a one-time automatic revive after KO. Support Ability, Auto-Regen, and Auto-Haste. If you have more than one of them show up at a time, you may want to consider casting STOP to keep it from doing awful stuff to your guys, then killing off the STOPed enemy.
Return Magic is great here! Vivi can keep throwing Comet back to the Yans for 5k - 9k dmg, even if the EnemyExtremely dangerous Vile Island enemy. Weak to Shadow and takes half damage from Holy; its Comet and Snort attacks make it a high-risk leveling target. Quina can eat it to learn Auto-Life. misses! Of course, Vivi can miss too. Quina’s Blue Magic10 MP Blue Magic. Attempts to inflict Heat on one enemy. can cause Heat, which will kill them off the next time they try to do something. If he doesn’t already know it, have him eat a EnemyLindblum Plateau enemy. Weak to Ice, Water, and Wind; absorbs Fire and nullifies Earth. Steal: Ore, Hi-Potion, Ether. Drops: Potion, Hi-Potion, Phoenix Down. Quina can eat it to learn Mustard Bomb; beware its Blow Up attack. in the forest near Lindblum (yeah, you have to look around for quite a while if there’s a bunch of EnemyMount Gulug and Daguerreo-area enemy. Weak to Ice and takes half damage from Fire. Steal: Hi-Potion, Antidote. Can be eaten by Quina to learn Bad Breath. enemies).
When you’re ready to continue, head for Memoria.
