Final Fantasy IX Disc 3
Forgotten Continent and Oeilvert
The Forgotten Continent
So you have to do a favor for someone. When your cell opens, head down to where the Black Mages are standing then you’ll be teleported. Walk right and talk to Kuja for a bit. You’ll be asked to choose three friends, and told you are going somewhere that you can’t use magic. What does that mean to you? Right. No Vivi, No Eiko and No Dagger. Except that you actually DO want Dagger, since you can quickly farm JewelJewel tied to Ark power and used in the Friendly Monster chain. here if both she and Steiner are in your party, and those are super powerful and super rare until endgame.
I like to have Zidane take along Steiner, Dagger, and Quina (because there are some enemies you can eat here, and there’s a frog pond, if you’re into frog catching). Now it’s time to fly away. When you have control, you’ll be in the middle of a glowing platform. Jump off and head right and up, over the platform, then down and left toward the ship. Step onto the ship, and wait while you are flown across the sea to the Forgotten Continent.
When you first get to the Forgotten Continent, if you have been doing what I suggested, you’ll want to way head north (and slightly west) until you find the Chocobo Tracks there. Call Choco and go exploring. The Forgotten Plains are just west of this area on one of the bluffs you can see in the image, and the dusk plains are just south and west of Oeilvert. Next hit up the remaining two cracks (see the Bubbles and Cracks section).
I’d also recommend visiting the forests east of Oeilvert and meeting up with Friendly MonsterFriendly Monster on the Forgotten Continent. Requests 1 Emerald; rewards AP and a Moonstone. (see the friendly monsters section for more info). Walk around in the Qu’s Marsh here until you find an EnemyForgotten Continent Qu's Marsh enemy. Weak to Fire and Ice; absorbs Water. Can be eaten by Quina to learn Bad Breath., then have Quina learn Blue Magic16 MP Blue Magic. Inflicts several status effects on one target.. There are other monsters Quina can eat - see the Blue Magic section for more information.
When you’re ready to advance the story, equip any new weapons/armor/accessories you have found, then head south to…
Oeilvert
Let’s start with a few notes here. First off, if you run across any enemies that appear to be made of stone while you are here, you can throw a ItemRemove Status Effect: Petrify, Gradual Petrify at them to insta-kill them. However, if either Steiner or Dagger are in your party, you can farm JewelJewel tied to Ark power and used in the Friendly Monster chain. here. Some of these gravestones will summon a doppelganger of Steiner and some will summon a doppelganger of Dagger - you can steal JewelJewel tied to Ark power and used in the Friendly Monster chain. from them. This is important because the power of the Summon EidolonDagger eidolon learned from Pumice. Damage is linked to Lapis Lazuli count. is directly proportional to how many JewelJewel tied to Ark power and used in the Friendly Monster chain. you have in your inventory, and this is the only chance you have to earn them before endgame. If you leave this area with 55 or so, you’ll have a VERY powerful summon later on. See the Eidolons and Gems section for more information.
When you first arrive, look beside you to find Mimoza the Moogle. Mognet/Mogshop/ItemIf used in battle, inflicts Silence, Darkness and Poison. If used in the field, restores HP/MP at save moogle./Save, then head to the building.
When you get in, there are exits left, up and right. Grab the ItemRemove Status Effect: Stop, Poison, Venom, Mini, Gradual Petrify, Silence, Darkness in the treasure chest under the stairs leading up, then go up those stairs and get the EquipmentCan be Thrown by Amarant in the chest there. Go left from here (that’s the “up” exit) and grab the ItemFully restores one character's HP and MP. from the chest in the next room. Examine the thing in the middle of the room (it should turn red) then head down the stairs.
Take the right exit from the entry room and talk to Stiltzkin in the back. Buy a ItemRestores HP: 300 outside battle or 450 in battle., JewelJewel used in the Friendly Monster chain and Carbuncle variation. and ItemFully restores one character's HP and MP. for 888 and then mognet/ItemIf used in battle, inflicts Silence, Darkness and Poison. If used in the field, restores HP/MP at save moogle./save with Mooel. Grab the EquipmentArmor for: All except Knights from the chest on the right. Go back two screens left. There are two treasures here. The lower one contains a EquipmentWeapon for Steiner, and the upper one has a EquipmentArmor for: Knights Only. There are four exits to this room: right (you came in here), up and right, up and down.
Head Down. There are two chests here. One on the lower level, and one on the upper. The lower level chest has a EquipmentArmor for: All except Knights and the upper level chest has a EquipmentAdd-on for: All. There are also Four glowing lights here, two on the lower level and two on the upper level. You have to touch them all in the proper order to make them work. Start with the light to the left on the upper level, then the one to the right. Next, go down the stairs and touch the one on the right, then the one on the left.
Take the left exit from the upper level and cross to the center of the bridge there. Examine the orb in the middle, then go the rest of the way across the bridge. On the next screen, take the blue door to your left. Backtrack to the room with the Moogles, then save your game and head right. Step onto the platform there and you’ll head down.
Boss Fight Prep
Word of warning: This guy will “confuse” your party. Equip appropriately (read: everyone in your party needs to have “clear headed” equiped). Wind damage is good. Examine the pedistal in the middle of the room to start the battle with the BossOeilvert boss. Weak to Wind and immune to Earth. Steal: Elixir, Power Vest, Holy Lance. Drops: Pumice Piece and possibly Ether; rewards 11 AP and 5,964 Gil..
I had Quina’s Add Status + EquipmentWeapon for Quina combination, and that put him to sleep for a few rounds, which was helpful. You can steal a EquipmentWeapon for Freya, EquipmentArmor for: All except Knights and an ItemFully restores one character's HP and MP.. Use Amarant’s “No Mercy” skill, Zidane’s Thievery skill, and have Steiner attack while he’s tranced to do SERIOUS damage to this guy, and just generally wipe the floor with him. He’s not really that powerful, unless he knocks all your guys loopy.
When the battle is over, take a minute to unequip anything special (I basically unequip everything except some low-quality weapons; if you’ve got Eiko in your party, be sure to unequip everything from her), then grab the stone in the middle of the statue. After a few cut scenes, you’ll wake up as the deus ex machina that is…
