Final Fantasy VIII Disc 3

Ragnarok

The Ragnarok

Once safely inside the ship, make sure you’ve junctioned for both your characters:

Optimizing GF Distribution on the Ragnarok

Squall: Quetz, Brothers, Alexander, Tonberry, Cerberus

Rinoa: Siren, Carbuncle, Leviathan, Ifrit, Shiva, Diablos, Pandemona, Doomtrain

Strategy: This is a temporary two-character layout. Keep the Quetz-Brothers-Alexander-Tonberry-Cerberus group on Squall and give Rinoa the other two groups so nobody is standing around with bare junctions and a hopeful expression. Make sure both characters can Draw and have solid HP. If you're farming Propagators, put LV Up/LV Down and Mug where you can actually use them, and junction Sleep to Status Attack if available.

Save your game and re-engage the anti-gravity by trying to leave. Go through the door and watch Ever-The-Ladies-Man-Squall botch another meaningful scene by pointing out to a vulnerable Rinoa that they are about to die. You’d think even Squall would realize that THEY ARE ALWAYS ABOUT TO DIE!

Anyway, Rinoa ALWAYS limit breaked to Angel Wing when I played this part of the game. Odd. Also, if you have Guardian ForceOptional Centra Ruins summon that randomly appears at battle start. Odin does not junction like a normal GF. you can also get Zantetsuken here which will make it rain. Inside the spaceship. Anyway, now you get to play a little mini game. The basic scenario is that the Propagators (these colored monsters) can revive each other. The hitch is that they can only revive monsters of the same color, so kill them off in same-color pairs.

Area Enemies: Ragnarok

PropagatorRagnarok- / -Lv 1-19: Thunder, Cure, Esuna, Life; Lv 20-29: Thundara, Cura, Esuna, Life; Lv 30+: Thundaga, Curaga, Esuna, Life

There are four colors of Propagators, and you’ll have to kill them in pairs, one color at a time: Purple, Green, Red, and Yellow.

If you kill a Purple Propagator then a Red Propagator, the other Purple Propagator will come and revive its friend while you are fighting the Red Propagator and the first Purple Propagator will be back alive when you are done fighting the Red Propagator. That means you have to follow a specific sequence:

Propagator pairing route
StepAction
1Go down the stairs from where you first entered the ship and fight the Purple Propagator.
2Take the leftmost main door. Read the next item before doing this one.
3Run really fast and go through the door on the left side of the screen.
4On that screen, which I’ll call the cargo bay, kill the second Purple Propagator. Congrats, that’s both the Purple Propagators.
5Now go one screen to the left to where the ELEVATOR is and kill the Green Propagator there.
6Now go back to the cargo bay and exit through the door on the right. Read the next item before doing this one.
7Run down, toward the player, and out the door to where you killed the first Purple Propagator—before the Red Propagator can strike.
8Now head through that rightmost door and kill the second Green Propagator.
9That’s both the Green Propagators.
10Save your game. Now do you see why I said to save your game earlier?
11Now go out the door and up the stairs to where you first saw the Purple Propagator.
12Kill the Red Propagator here.
13Then fight the Red Propagator I have been telling you to run past for so long. :)
14That’s both the Red Propagators. Assume best Rod and Todd voice: Yeah!
15Now go back to the room where the ELEVATOR was and head through the door on the left to kill the Yellow Propagator.
16When he dies, you will be in the elevator room. Go down two screens, toward the player, and kill the other Yellow Propagator. Where was he, come to think… No, forget I asked. I don’t want to know.
17Now go back and up the elevator.

After the game cleans up the monster corpses with no explanation at all, go up the elevator. Watch as life-long soldier Squall apparently can’t follow directions (despite being told to go sit in the right seat, he chooses the MIDDLE seat). Wow - is that music with lyrics? Whoa. I got distracted by the real CD sound, not just MIDI. Watch Squall learn how to say things other than “Whatever” and eventually we’ll get back home.

Anyway, Squall hits another crossroad in his life where he finally decides he actually LIKES Rinoa. It’s that age old story: Guy hates life. Girl likes guy. Guy hates girl. Girl goes into coma. Guy likes girl. Girl becomes sorceress and is capable of destroying the universe. Guy really likes girl.

So the moral of the game’s story is… Don’t do drugs, kids.

At least, that’s what I got out of it. Anyway, head back into the ship. You will start out in the cargo bay. From there, head left, then go through the door to the left of the elevator. When you regain control of Squall again, try to talk to Quistis. After you realize you are flying, go back out the door and get on the elevator to go up to the cockpit. Congratulations, you now have the Ragnarok. Now it’s time to go save Rinoa.

Saving Rinoa

Fly the Ragnarok to the Sorceress Memorial. When you get there, take the long stair to the top and draw Stop if you want, where the guards are. Talk to the guards to gain entrance to the memorial. Once inside, walk forward to talk to the lab guys. Then walk left when the alarm starts. Go forward until Squall takes over and watch the cool CG. After the big guy in the robes talks to you, you can leave.
