Final Fantasy VII

Disc 2: Forgotten Capital to Icicle Inn

Optional: Fort Condor

If you are doing the Fort Condor side quest, Battle 13 is available now. Make sure you leave Fort Condor with enough Gil if you want them to keep fighting later.

Northern Cave Path

Area Enemies
  • EnemyCorral Valley enemy. Absorbs Ice. Steal, drop, or morph for Dazers. If defeated by Magic or a Summon, it can use Death Sentence as a final attack—an Enemy Skill opportunity.
  • EnemyCorral Valley enemy. Immune to Earth and Water. Steal: Phoenix Down; drops Hi-Potion; morphs into X-Potion. Its Dance attack causes Darkness and Slow to the party.
  • EnemyCorral Valley enemy. Drops Ether. It can cast Mini, then Eat a Small character; defeat it before that removes someone from battle.
  • EnemyCorral Valley enemy. Steal or drop: Shrivel. Spin Shield swaps it between a magic-focused form and a physical-defense form.
  • EnemyCorral Valley enemy. Absorbs Water and is immune to Gravity. Steal: Water Ring. A back attack makes it take eight times normal physical damage.

At the Forgotten Capital, take the left path if you want to save, then take the right path all the way to the end. Go left around the large spiny shell and open the chest for Cid's WeaponsCid's Weapon. Attack: 58; Attack %: 102; Connected Slots: 0; Unconnected Slots: 4; Growth: Double. Return to the front and Cloud should jump up the spine on his own.

At the top, go to the top of the shell, then loop around to the exit on the ledge to the left. In the cave with chimneys, use this route:

Northern Cave chimney route
StepAction
1Take the left chimney. At the top, exit left.
2Take the next left chimney. At the top, exit left again.
3Reenter the chimney and go up. At the top, jump left for ArmorArmor: 4 Connected Slots, 0 Unconnected Slots; Absorbs Lightning Based Attacks.
4Go back down and exit right.
5Walk right to the next chimney you can climb.
6Go up and exit right for Restoration ItemsTarget: All, Restores ALL HP/MP.
7Reenter the chimney and go down.
8When prompted, exit right, then immediately jump back on heading down.
9Near the bottom, exit left for HypnoCrown.
10Climb all the way up the chimney and go left at the top.
11Take the next cleft up and walk left to the ladder.
12Climb to the bottom for Magic Plus Materia.
13Get back on the ladder and climb up.
14When you jump off, get back on heading up (you’ll have to climb here, don’t ask me why…).

At the top, head right. In the next cave, open the chest near the entrance for Stat-Up ItemsTarget: 1, Permanently raise Strength by 1. Continue until you emerge in the Icicle area.

Icicle Inn

From the cave exit, head slightly south, then west until you hit the ocean. Turn north and pass the chocobo tracks. When you reach the northern ocean, head east to Icicle Inn. Save before entering town.

Area Enemies
  • EnemyNorthern Continent overworld enemy. Gravity damage is halved. Steal or drop: Carob Nut; morph into an Elixir. Its very large HP pool makes Gravity useful early in the fight.
  • EnemyNorthern Continent overworld enemy. Absorbs Earth and can use L4 Suicide. Gold Mountain adds 800 Gil to its eventual drop.
  • EnemyNorthern Continent overworld enemy. Weak to Fire and halves Ice damage. Drops Hi-Potion; morph into Ice Crystal. Its Howling attack can revive a defeated Bandersnatch.
  • EnemyNorthern Continent overworld enemy. Drops Hi-Potion; morph into Antarctic Wind. Defeat it promptly to avoid its heavy Club Sword attack.

While you are in town:

After you have looked around, head to the far end of town and talk to the man near the exit. If you thank him, he explains snowboarding. Try to leave past him and the Turks show up. Mash left to dodge the punch if you can.

If you dodge, Elena goes down the hill. If you do not, you wake up in Gast’s house. Either way, talk to the injured kid a few times and take the Key ItemsKey Item: Use to get to Great Glacier (Play a mini-game first, though). Run to the end of town and head right down the hill.

You’ll be thrust into the Key ItemsKey Item: Use to get to Great Glacier (Play a mini-game first, though) mini-game. It’s kinda fun, but it does get old pretty quick. There are a couple of route choices you’ll make on your way down the hill. For the route assumed by the next section, take the right-hand path at each fork.
