Final Fantasy VII
Disc 2: Rocket Town Huge Materia to Forgotten Capital
Junon Revisited
It’s time to head for Junon Airport so we can steal the Key ItemsKey Item: You can collect all four! (And when you do, take them to Bugenhagen's Observator and up the elevator to get Bahamut Zero). Enter Lowtown and take the elevator, then go up one screen to the airport. You’ll arrive a bit late, but Cloud will helpfully tell you where they’re taking it.
Head back down the elevator, hop in the Highwind, and fly over to Rocket Town.
Rocket Town
On your way in, hit the weapon shop on your left. The room with the fire has a chest containing a ArmorArmor: 4 Connected Slots, 1 Unconnected Slots. The item/materia store back room has a chest with a Stat-Up ItemsTarget: 1, Permanently raise Vitality by 1 in it.
Go to the rightmost house with Cid in your party to hear something that the game claims is a “joke.”
Finally, head to the rocket launch area. Go over the ramps and “talk” to the soldiers. If you want to steal another ArmorArmor: 0 Connected Slots, 0 Unconnected Slots; Reduces all Magic Attacks by Half. from Rude, equip Steal Materia to one character and Mime Materia to another.
Head into the rocket, beating up Rude on the way. Kill the senior grunt in the hall, then head through the doorway at the end.
Watch a bunch of cut scenes, then head right when you have control of your guys. Head up the ladder and get ready to enter the passcode on the device.
Read this before you enter it, though, to save yourself some trouble.
Rocket Passcode
You’ll be asked to enter a four-key sequence. You can choose from Triangle, Cross, Circle, and Square.
The hints are:
- You only push Circle once.
- The first key is not Square.
- The second key is not Triangle.
- The third key is Cross.
- The last key is either Cross or Triangle.
- One of the keys gets pressed twice.
- Triangle does not get used.
From this you have to figure out the passcode. We can reduce the above to:
Possible Keys:
- 1st: Circle or Cross
- 2nd: Circle, Cross, or Square
- 3rd: Cross
- 4th: Cross
Based on hint 5, we can assume that 1 and 2 are not Cross, so we’re stuck with either Circle, Square, Cross, Cross or Square, Circle, Cross, Cross.
If you try them both, you’ll discover that the first one is the correct sequence:
Once you get it, try to leave the rocket the way you came in, and head down the ladder at the end of the hall.
You remember the area Shera was concerned about? Heh.
Anyway, you’ll follow Shera and watch a bunch more cut scenes, then you’ll be on the Highwind. If you have a chocobo, you’d better land and pick ‘em back up.
Cosmo Canyon
Head to Cosmo Canyon, and now you can go up that rightmost ladder and around behind the store owner. There’s a FullCure Materia and an Restoration ItemsTarget: 1, Restores ALL HP/MP/Stat-Up ItemsTarget: 1, Permanently raise Magic by 1 there.
Once you have those, head up to the top of the mountain, into the planetarium room where you first learned about the Lifestream from Bugenhagen, and start another conversation with him. When he leaves, you’ll head up the elevator.
Take a close look at the blue one on the right.
Ta da! You now have Bahamut ZERO Materia. Other than the Hades Materia in the Gelnika, that’s the last of Summon Materia. When you get master level of ALL the materia of a certain type, be sure to bring them here. You can have master level Magic Materia, master level Summon Materia, and master level Command Materia. See the Materia Types section for the full list.
Optional: Level Up
This is a descent time to visit the Leveling Up section and start grinding stat-up items. If you haven’t already picked up either Yuffie’s Yuffie's WeaponsYuffie's Weapon. Attack: 96; Attack %: 112; Connected Slots: 8; Unconnected Slots: 0; Growth: NO GROWTH! weapon or the Hades Materia, head to the Gelnika and grab both of them. You should now have all of the Summon Materia, so if you’re grinding for stat-up items, you can also be working toward a Master Summon Materia.
If you don’t want to wait until endgame to get your stat boosts, this is the time to explore the level up section and the sunken gelnika section to see how to create a ridiculously OP party.
When you’re ready to move on…
Forgotten Capital
Hop in the sub and ride it above water toward the place where the northern continent has green grass. That’s only a single place. You can’t go over shallow water, so there really is only one place you can get very close to.
When you get there, dive, and if you swing the camera angle around, you’ll see a cave to your right. Go inside and get the Key to the Ancients, then head back to Junon, get in the Highwind, and head to Bone Village.
Go through the forest and return to the Forgotten Capital.
Take the left path and head into the cave. When Bugenhagen leaves, head behind the pillars around the back and into the area where he is. Go straight across the narrow bridge and talk to him.
After a bunch of cut scenes, you’ll be treated to an instant replay of some of the stuff that happened on the first disc. Eventually you’ll have control again. Go into the middle of the waterfall and you’ll see more cut scenes.
Try to leave. When you see what you need to do next, head to Midgar and save outside the city. Then move on to the Return to Midgar section.
Now you know the importance of the materia that Aeris dropped earlier.
